What is it and how long have you had it? Why do you love it so much? I would say my favourite teddy bear is Paddington Bear. Those unfamiliar with the story can educate yourself using the link below. http://www.paddingtonbear.com/ Anyway, my Paddington Bear was purchased for me by John about 3 or 4 years ago now from the Hotel near Paddington Railway Station in London. They have a massive selection of them in a clear tumbler by reception..all different sizes and, if I remember rightly the colours of the coats varied, as did the hats. Mine has a blue duffle coat, red hat, matching red wellington boots plus his cute little suitcase. Mum actually made me a Paddington Bear when I was little because she couldn't afford the "real thing" and it was remarkably like the one I have now, actually. I didn't care..she made up stories using the bear anyway so I wasn't that bothered what it looked like. I was more bothered about the quality of the stories she told. So, to finally get my hands on an original is most satisfying..and no, I'm not tempted to sell him on Ebay. Haha!

Giraffes are adorable, I've always liked them. I'd love to see them in the wild one day and marvel at their height and cuteness!

Hello Janey, As a child I dreamt of having a teddy bear. I couldn't have one because they weren't sold on the market from my country. This doesn't mean that I didn't have toys and dolls. I had, and I enjoyed them very much, but I wished to have a teddy bear like the ones I saw in the pictures from books. When I was a teenager, I went on a trip with my classmates and in a small shop near a monastery I found this teddy bear. It wasn't a beautiful one, it even had a strange color for a bear (khaki!), but I spent half of the money I had for that trip on that teddy bear. My classmates were so surprised of my choice, the other girls bought blouses and dresses and small pieces of jewelry but all I wanted was that ugly teddy bear. During the '90 the Romanian market was invaded by all kind of stuffed toys, teddy bears included. Knowing how much I wanted one, many friends and relatives brought me teddy bears as presents, but no other teddy bear was like my first one. I still have it, it thrones in my old room at my parent's place. Most of the other toys I had I gave them away to an orphanage, but this one I couldn't give away.

Hello! Wow, what an amazing story! I think it was so sweet of you to donate your toys to an orphanage, just keeping the most special teddy of all..the one you REALLY wanted and bought for yourself. Your story has made me feel really good, so thanks for that.

I'm glad I brought a smile on your face. I was a loved child, my parents bought for me (and for my brother, too) a lot of toys. We weren't reach, so our toys weren't too sophisticated, but they surely brought joy to the orphans. I kept that ugly teddy bear as it was special to me - my first teddy bear ever.

L.O.L. HA HA That is cute!! I don't have any dolls that I kept for a long time but my daughter had a Little Mermaid doll that was meant for the bathtub when she was little and it would sing like she would when she was under the sea in an porea voice L.O.L. I wish I knew where that doll was!! It was my favorite!!

Hiya Janey, Oh that Paddington Bear is lovely more than lovely beautiful don´t sell him ever. I had a Teddy Bear the first one I ever had in my life was bought for me by my youngest Son. He is quite a big Teddy Bear with a Sweatshirt on and I love it he also bought me a little Dog that says "Te Quiero", I love you in English and I love that as well. I have yet to find a soft Toy as velvety as the one I gave to my Mom though. Here they are quite rough even though they are furry. They feel like Scotch Brite (grin) so I have not bought another Toy up to yet.

I do know what you mean about some so-called furry toys not being that furry at all really. I would LOVE a Steiff bear to magically appear in the post one day but it's extremely unlikely..and I reckon Paddington would get jealous anyway, so I don't wanna risk it lol. Don't worry, I shall NEVER sell Paddington. He is very special to me and reminds me of the good times we had in London whenever I look at him.

I call him Rupert or Fernando (grin). I call the little Dog one Shep get down Shep like in "Blue Peter" remember? Well I just about remember it. Oh yes a Steiff Bear the nearest I have got to one is in England and that was ages ago really. I love London I really do.

No, I don't have a favorite bear, but I do have several stuffed animals I've kept. The oldest I bought when I was 12. It's a big white monkey; his name is Leonard. He's missing his red bow around his neck and he has ink on his face where my nephew (about 4 at the time) tried to give him a mustache. So that makes the monkey about 50 years old... And no, he's not going on eBay either... It's my nephew's inheritance...

What a great name for a monkey..Leonard! Love it! I did have a small gorilla (an extremely realistic gorilla..probably from WWF) and my brother burned his nose on purpose. This gorilla cost me a lot of money and I was most upset that Danny could do such a cruel thing to him. I just let it fall to bits after that, my enthusiasm waned somewhat!

Mine has to be my old smurf bear which sadly went to Teddy Bear Hospital all so many years ago and unforutantrly never made it through the operation (don't you jsut love mothers stories ) Although this year my mother remembered how much I loved my smurf bear and sent me a new one to me quite recently is quite a comical moment but also jsut the memories of the other bear flowing back is amazing. The new one has nothing on the old bear though but still is quite nice.

Awww, what a sweet thing your Mum did sending me a new Smurf bear! She sounds lovely. I do know what you mean about memories flooding back. I couldn't remember the actual stories Mum told but when John bought me my new Paddington Bear I did remember the WAY she told the stories to me. That was enough to bring a broad smile to my face...as it is now me thinking about it.
2 Mar 11
I'm the same with most of my mothers stories the main one I remember is just the whole idea of Teddy bear hospital The rest have escaped me but as you rightly point out it's the memory of the story that counts, it's what brings the smile to our faces . As much as I love the new smurf the old one was the original and will remain the best without a shadow of doubt

I have a favorite bear, that I probably have had about twenty two years. My kids bought it for me for Mother's Day. There is a garden center about fifty miles away from where I live, and I always loved to go there. So did my kids. We usually went in May. The kids went in the gift shop, and found a bear that you could get clothes for. They selected a sweater that says "I love Mom". Of course they did not have their money along, maybe had not made their plan yet. Anyway, we get home and the next week they want me to drive them back to the garden center, "So we can get you a gift." I was thinking a plant, but obviously, they had this bear picked out.

Isn't it funny how certain things become iconic on our lives? Paddington Bear you will forever associate with your Mum and her stories. A time of security and love. I have an old very threadbare Teddy called "Teddy"! He is a few months older than me and was a gift from my eldest aunt. She is now 93 and still going strong. Teddy and I have had some adventures and he has done some traveling in his time. When I lived in Germany he got so thin that my then GF had to perform radical surgery on him. She opened him up and restuffed him. Like any anxious friend I paced the floor hoping that the procedure would go well. I am pleased to report that it did. In fact not only did he survive the ordeal she also made him some fetching purple pajamas - he looked like Noel Coward bear! LOL. Today he keeps an eye on my daughter. But there are times when Teddy and I sit together and discuss weighty matters. We all need a friend and he's the best.

Awww that's so sweet! I would love to see a pic of your "Teddy" he sounds adorable. I love that little bit you mention about his operation and the fact you were pacing up and down, feeling anxious. Some people don't understand our "associations" with our teds. They're so innocent and remind us of our innocence. I hope David Cameron talks to his every night..he's gonna need him now more than ever!

I am a guy but I love collecting dolls. My favorite doll of all time will be Barbie because I am a fashion designer and Barbie is a fashion doll and her body proportion is just like those of supermodels. Barbie is one of the only dolls that have been through all eras, such as she has worn costumes of all nationalities, fashion of all eras as well as having dressed as famous celebrities. Best of all is that many well-known fashion designers such as Versace, Chanel, Vera Wang, Giorgio Armani, Calvin Klein and many more are having Barbies dressed in their creation and name after them, so9 if you would to ask me if I posses a favorite, then I'll say that mine will be any of the Barbies that's makeover and dressed by me in my creations!

I never knew Barbies were used by fashion designers like yourself. I've learned something else on MyLot today, so thanks for that. I never collected Barbie dolls but friends of mine had a few. I see what you mean about their outfits..quite elaborate some of them. I think the reason why I preferred teddies was that I couldn't be bothered with the dressing up bit so had the bears au naturelle!

I did not have a favorite doll or bear when I was a child. But my daughter does. I sent it to her as an adult because I know she will enjoy having it. It is daffy duck stuff toy that she so loved. I have so many stories on the couple times she almost lost it and oh gosh we have spoken on the phone many times remembering the stories.

Daffy Duck is one of my favourite Disney characters. I find Mickey Mouse a bit creepy if I'm being honest; I don't know why but it's true. As for Daffy, well he's cute and I'm glad your daughter hasn't managed to lose him..yet!

My granddaughter has a lot of doll. The most of them are dog because she was born in the year of the dog which is one of the twelve animals used to symbolize the year in which a person is born.Every night my granddaughter nestles her doll in her arms till falls sleep.Sometimes she feeds the doll in all seriousness when we have a meal.

My answer is:I do not teddy bear,no doll. The domestic market was not for the family to buy such goods. They are always very expensive. My parents like to send me some books for my birthday. In fact ,there are a lot of those books which are pirated books, this is the last century,Chinese children's childhood. Now I will not regret, because I did not realize until today teddy bear on the significance of an adult.Perhaps,my younger taught me in this regard.

Yes, I too have my favourite bear, though I’m not sure if it can be called a bear at all. Its like the Paddington pix you posted, with its tongue sticking out. Its has an orange and cream floral cap sewed on with matching sleeveless coat and pants. My dad got is from me when I was a kid so that about 30 years back. All my toys and dolls from that time are gone, only this one’s very much there coz I just love him so much. Nowadays of course, he’s stashed away in the cupboard as my son wants to play with it but I just cant take any chances!!!

My favourite teddy bear would have to be one of those teddy bears holding a heart-shaped plushie in its arms. Not to cuddle it in my sleep, I gave it as a Valentine gift to someone three weeks before Valentine's day, 'cause we're kinda in a long distance relationship and only met each other a few times in a year.
