Ladies first...

Hi everyone...
Here is a social system ( may be morality) is well spread in my locality. I don't know whether it is common in other countries or not. It's ladies first. Ladies are given first preference on any social circumstances. I mean, if i am in a Queue to buy a railway ticket and a lady arrives later, then that lady will get her ticket first. May be there are more than 50 males in the queue. Again, if you are traveling in a bus and there is a vacant sit after miles of your journey, then you are bound to give the chance to sit the lady, may be she has boarded minutes ago. And too many instances are there. I just have picked up two. Okay, i am fine with this system.
But, sometimes some ladies don't show minimum decency and wish to take the advantage of this system. I mean there may be a physically challenged man or too old man on the queue or on the bus. Here she should give the opportunity to him. But, no never.. she is happy with it. ( not all the ladies)
So, what do you want to say here? should this system be continued or stopped. Please share.
Oh.. by the way... SHOULD I POST MY LADY NO.3...LOL
THANKS IN ADVANCE.

Hiya shibs,
I like that system you have and I can see a few Women taking advantage of that yes. Now if I was that beautiful Lady I would have taken your offer of a Seat I would indeed.
Equality yes afraid that is misused by some here as well.
A Man for example will often as not let the Door slam in your Face and just walk straight on this applies to Men of all ages by the way.
untry though I like it. Like it very much.

Well to tell the truth I am a bit shy would you believe it so I have a hard time trying to get to like a Photo of mine I really do.
I know beauty is in the eyes of the beholder or Person or Spectator. I know that already but that does not make my choice any easier.
Sorry I lost contact with you this Morning it´s Wednesday today and here anything can go wrong.
It is taking me ages to load any responses too. Also I am working with my Husband this Week again.
Take care now always.xxx

That is a very sweet and kind of romantic system you got there. Of course we heard about the saying: Ladies first in my country - Indonesia - but then no one really bothers to implement it. I guess because ladies often took advantages on the saying.
Well, at the end of the world, when God opens the Hell's door, I am afraid there would be a chorus by males saying: Ladies first...!

This is not valid in our area or even my erstwhile place SHibham. Yours seems to be a different society. Here, in thsi day of equality the practice is not adopted., I heard with my own ears , a gentleman taking a lady to task when she started a new queue. He fired her saying "You people talk about equality everywhere else! Now, why do you want to take advantage here?'

Hi didi...
Not a different society but i have been noticing it from my childhood. Yes, where the issue of equality is concerned.... females are taking advantages still today even government is also helping them.
I understand and although the sound is not fair, yet proper. have a nice day.

Hi Shibham,
I think the gender of a person has nothing to do with manners. Though women are supposed and expected to be more well mannered here, facts are somewhat different. I rarely travel by bus these days (as I mostly stay at home and when I go out we use the auto rickshaws.. but yes, I would leave one for an old man or a pregnant lady
As for the system, it is good no doubt... quite many things are around for good but we make a bad use of some and that is where the things seem to be bad

Hi Shibham! well, that kind of system or custom was already common in our country and honestly, if I were in such situation I would be thankful enough if a person would offer a seat for me and I would definitely be spoiled or rather used to such custom. Your place might really be a place where women can enjoy themselves. well, I guess that such practice is a good way of showing respect to women. If you do such thing then it's a good thing so continue it as girs would also respect you and see you as a kind person as for the women who were taking advantage of it. better let them realize their mistakes.

Hi friend...
Nice to hear that this system is common in your country too.
But sometimes a guy is badly treated as i have mentioned in the second response. In my locality, most women are ready to take the advantage of this system... they even never hesitate to push an old man to sit in a vacant seat. Its disgusting.
Have a nice day.

Personally I feel that some react out of courtesy but if we are speaking of equal rights and it is not an elder and or handicapped of some kind I find that the lady should wait her turn. This coming from a lady of course.

Yes so with all the women screaming to be equal then if not done out of courtesy then they too should wait with the rest.

Now if you gave up your seat then of course women would consider you to be a mannered gentlemen.

In my city we ladies have the benefit of having reserved seats in buses. And special ladies compartments in trains. Sometimes we have a whole bus or a full train that is reserved for ladies only. This does upset the men here. But there is no special queue for ladies for tickets.

I'm with Saphy, maybe I'll move to India.
No,seriously I see no reason for this system, and especially when the women take such advantage of it, and don't even have the courtesy to let handicapped and elderly people in front of them.

It used to be taught at schools when I was little but I did not get the chance to benefit from it. When I was young, teens started to run for the bus seats, pushing away pregnant women and old people. I had my first fights then. Now, when everyone is hooked to music devices, young peopple pay no attention to anyone. Now I have to touch the to ask the to give the seat to a lady or old person. Mind you, I don´t ask one for me.
I´m afraid that we have spoken too much about children´s rights and have forgotten to teach them their duties. That goes for everyone. In your place the "ladies first" rule should not start with 18 year old ladies, of course.

I appears that this rules should be put to work all the world around. If children do not learn to respect the people that are nearer to them, you cannot expect them to respect people with different races, religions and attires.

Hi maguicha...
Really a great idea. I support it. Except from course contained studies, the kids should be taught about character and behavior. That is a common scenario in here too that kids or teen agers rush at bus and push all around them. I think this rule should be implement where necessary. Right?
Have a nice day.

we also say lady firt in china.in fact ladys don't have so many preference just like what you have said.At most circumstance.man and woman are equal. For example ladies have to wait with men in line in bank or station.they don't have privilege.
when lady by bus,if she saw old man she usually like to give him her seat.it's usual.

Even in R.T.C.(Road Transport Corporation of India) buses also we are seeing the proverbs like "ladies first, let them sit in ladies reserved seats".
This is very good culture of India.
I am proud of it.

Hi ramesh...
Very good culture. But sometimes ladies sit on unreserved seats where as there are empty seats on reserved. It irritates me because if a man sit on that seat, then he is bound to leave it if a woman arrives and his seat is already occupied by women.
Have a nice day.

I think the ladies first only a courtesy and attitude is an expression of humility and respect,Ms behavior. As a man, more to the performance of such kind of gentlemanly behavior, even if the president does not receive your feelings, but it is also to a large extent reflect your cultural enrichment.

I think it's great when women get the respect they deserve and are often denied else where, but I also strongly believe in everyone having equal respect for one another and of other living things. I can see your point about women having the same respect for people who are elderly or handicaped It should be human nature if an indivual with speacial needs, need a seat or a helping hand you should volunteer to help.

Hi Cynthial...
Agree with you. We are obliged to respect each other because everybody is unique and vivid. Once i have seen a man with stick on his hand and age was above 75... who was standing beside a woman... but she was looking through window as she is not seeing him. Have a nice day.

Wow no thats not how it is here in the United states at least where I live thats for sure. Some men are real gentlemen and will let the woman have their seat but the woman doesnt expect it becuase most men arent like that. The fact that men could be standing in a long line and then a woman comes and she gets to go first. That is very weird that isnt how it is here at all!

Where I am I am seeing less and less gentlemen around. For example I used to take the bus to work and sometimes men would sit in the handicapped seat (able bodied men) and sometimes a woman with a baby or an older woman will come on and they don't give up their seats. Some do and some don't.

Hi dreamy...
I travel by train almost five days in a week and a long journey of more than 2 hours and have seen many instances like you have said. Able person is sitting on reserved sit for disabled. Once. I had an argue for this issue. But i do.... if i am not weak or too much tired.
have a nice day.

As for the standing in line for a service that is usually on a first come first serve basis. But in this country giving up a seat for a lady, the elderly and the handicap is sadly becoming a dieing fashion. I ride RTD city busses all the time and see many things.
Our busses have 2 locations on the bus that are for wheelchairs. There are posted signs that tell all to give up these seat for the handicap and/or elderly. There are also signs that tell people that strollers should be folded when necessary. Sometimes ladies with baby strollers take these wheelchair spots. One day while rideing the bus 2 ladys with strollers each had a wheelchair spot. We come upon a stop where there was a wheelchair coming on board. When the wheelchair got on there was no spot for him. Rightfully one of the ladies should have folded the stroller. Neither of them moved to do so. The wheelchair had to stay in the isle, which is unlawful. The driver should have asked one of the ladies to fold up but he didnt.
Another time i was riding the shuddle which is in our downtown area. There are few seats. Again the signs are posted to give the seats to the elders and/or handicap. The shuddle was packed full. A very elderly couple got on. They must have been in there 80's. The lady even had a cane. Nobody got up to give these old people a place to sit. Im looking around at all these young people sitting like nothing was wrong. Finally some young asian people got up to give their seats to the older couple. They explained to me that in their country they are trained to do that. I thanked them for their kindness. Explaining that i was actually imbarrised to see my counrties youth not doing that and leaving it up to tourist to do so. Conversing loud enough for all to hear.

Also the bus drivers are the ones that are suppose to lift seats to allow for the wheel chairs, Most the time its other passengers that do it. Sometimes even the whell chair rider dose it. Common courtesy has been lost in our society. Manners are not being taught to the upcoming generations.

Hi jdyrj....
This is a common conception that first come first chance.... but we always give first preference to woman. But don't think that all of us do the same.. there are some mannerless too.
So, here you have shown that some ladies are mannerless as man. As you have mentioned that the conductor or driver should ask that lady to leave the seat where as the passengers also can interfere here.
the new generation is less sincere here too... but at least not to that point as you have mentioned in your country. Let me see to which country you are belonged to.
Have a nice day.

Common courtesy should be something we should practice every where...I Am a female and I have no problem offering my seat to older people, mothers, children even, I just don't mind...and if I Am in a queue I just wait my turn like every one else.

ladies should be treated like a lady of course, i agreew ith the ladies first policy, im a lady but sometimes in my college life i remember this incident that there's a pregnant lady, and all the man sitting in the bus don't like to offer their sit with her, so me although im a lady i offer my own sit just to insult the other guys who is ignoring this pregnant lady.
