Do you eat geckos?

I have friend who went to China. She told us that she ate some exotic foods. I know that some people eat bats, snakes, grasshoppers etc but I never expected her to have tried to eat a gecko! Are they really safe? I've been trying to search the internet about it to know if geckos are edible. I don't want to try it though. I'm just very curious as to how it would look like.
