Friends and travelling

My friend and I both like travelling, but we have never travelled together. We have very different ideas about travelling. I like her a lot and I would like to travel with her, but I think that it would be hard for us to travel together, because we disagree about so many things.
My friend likes group tours and she likes to visit the same place every year. She finds museums and art galleries boring, and she prefers the food that she knows from Denmark.
I love to plan my own trips and I prefer to visit new places every time. I am interested in architechture, art, history and many other things and I love to visit sights, museums and art galleries. I love to eat the local food, because that gives me the chance to eat some of dishes that aren't available in my own country.
Did you and your friends ever travel together? Do you agree about accomodation, activities and things like that?

I took some holidays with an ex girlfriend and another couple of friends. We were sharing the same interests -- you should have joined : monuments and museums --, and we began by a week in Venice -- by train --, then two more long travels in South of Spain and Morocco -- in car --. We all keep a good souvenir of these holidays that we stopped when our friends had a baby.
I also made a small cruise with some coworkers, and I decided that I would not do it again : we had different interests and we were too many. It finishes by small groups of 3 or 4...
If you are as different as you say, I understand that you can hesitate. Maybe you should schedule and agree on everything before, by example : we will eat local food for lunch and Danish food for dinner, etc.

That sounds like some interesting holidays. I went to Venice 12 years ago. I was there twice, the first time was during the carnival and we didn't get to see much of the place because there were so many people everywhere. The second time we managed to visit some of the famous places, but we got lost several times I have also been to the south of Spain, but I have never visited Morocco. Which places did you visit in Morocco?
I once travelled in a big group and it wasn't a success either, after a while we split up into smaller groups, because we couldn't agree on the activities.

Hi,
I have been to South of Spain (Malaga and Granada).
We flew from London to Malaga, and it were only three
of us. My son, my husband and myself. We used our 7
nights time sharing accommodation and take buses to
and fro the city. We managed to visit Pablo Picasso's
museum, Tivoli World theme park and took the interstate
bus to Granada and visit the places of interest like
Alhambra- the old fortified city Alkasabe.
I totally like what Toppher mentioned, that we should
schedule and agree on everything before to avoid any
misunderstanding or 'unhappiness' due to some disagreement.

@Porcospino: We arrived at Tangier, and stay in the North : Fès, Meknès, Salé, Rabat and Casablanca, and we decided to return to Fès and finish the holidays there : it is the most interesting town, with the oldest university in the world -- IXth century ! we visited the library --, castles, gardens, tanneries,...
@Iriene: I have excellent memories of the Alhambra visited at the opening on the morning, in spring : it is a nice feeling when you are -- quite -- alone in the gardens.

I could try to go to Albania. You can find history, nature, landscapes, and new food. Your friend can find international food, beaches, intertainment places... You can plan everything so your friend doesn't have to plan. I suggest you Tirana, Vlore, Berat, Gjirokastra, Saranda (visit Ksamil beaches) and Butrint. These are only some places. Maybe you can visit Italian region of Puglia and the go there with ferry.
With my friend I've never travelled in Albania but I made some others places: Germany, Portugal, Spain... It depend for friends. Some friends of mine are like me, they like to look at architecture, art, museum and others that think only to have fun. We always agree to plan our trips: fly ticket, places to visit and hostel booking.

I have never been to Albania, but it is sounds like an interesting place, and I would like to go there one day. It also sounds like a place that my friend and I would both enjoy If we are going to travel together we have to find a place that we would both like. I don't know the Italian region of Puglia either. Some years I ago I went to language school in Ravenna and afterwards I worked in Bologna, but I have never been to the south of Italy. My husband and I have talked about going there one day, it could be really interesting to travel around in the regions of Italy where I haven't been yet.

Well, I'm sure you'll both enjoy!
You can visit Rome, Naples and the region of Puglia then with ferry go to Albanian coast. In summer to go to Saranda is great. And from there visit Butrint, Gjirokastra and the beach of Ksamil. It's also near to Greece, Greek island of Corfù is only few km far.
I'd like to put an image of the sea in Ksamil but I'm not able...I registered to mylot only yesterday :(

These days I travel with my disabled toddler son and baby daughter. I have to make sure the trips I go on are suitable for them. I choose to stay in locally owned guest houses. Now that my daughter has overgrown her travel cot I need a room with beds for 3 or 4 people.
I don't like to eat out at restaurants because I like to do self catering. I take some vegan foods with me and get food in from the supermarket. Sometimes the fruit and vegetable market can be worth visiting. If my friend wanted us to eat out every evening it would be a problem for me.
I like to visit interesting museums and art galleries but I have to be careful to make sure I don't bore my children. I have to walk reasonably fast and find some things that they will be amused by. If I traveled with a friend she might have trouble going at such a fast pace. Though if we went really slowly my kids would be likely to moan and annoy other visitors.
I love to explore independently. I would hate to have to go on a 10 day organized tour with hotel accommodation. I wouldn't like to travel to the same country with my friend every year. I love to go to different countries and see as much as possible.

I can see that we agree about a lot things. I don't like organized tours, I want to make my own plans. I always buy maps and guidebooks and then I plan which places to visit. I like to use the local transportation as much as possible. I don't like the idea of visiting the same country year after year. It might be a beautiful place, but there are so many interesting places around the world that I would like to see and I wouldn't get the chance to do that if I stick the same place every time. I like to visit the fruit and vegetable marked especially if I am able to find fruit that I can't find at home. One thing we don't agree about is the restaurants, because I love to eat out.

I have never traveled with my friends before. I have once traveled as a group with teens from other schools though. If we ended up disagreeing, we would come to a compromise so that we can all have fun at the same time. It is hard to travel with a friend, especially if you don't have the same preferences. I hope that if you decide to travel with your friend, that you are both able to have fun and enjoy. Who knows maybe you both will learn a thing or two from each other.

I like your words about learning from eachother, that is a good point. I hope that my friend and I would be able to find some kind of compromise if we decide to travel together. I know that she finds museums and that kind of places very boring and she prefers to spend the time at the beach. I am not the kind of person who likes to spend the entire holiday at the beach, but maybe we can still find a solution that we can both accept.

My friends and I love to travel to new places for a change. Before we travel, we must agree to where we will go so that it will be fun. The accomodation and activities must be planned and agreed with the group so that all will be having fun. Trying new things and trying new places to visit is fun especially around your friends who also wants that.

Yes, it can be fun to visit new places with a group of friends if you agree about the activities and enjoy the same kinds of things. When you have different ideas and different interests, it isn't always easy to agree about the activities, I have tried that in the past. We didn't agree about the things to do and we ended up doing things in smaller groups instead of a big group.

I think it is great that you and your friends share the same interests, that makes it is easier to travel together. I also prefer to make my own itineraries, that is usually less expensive. I like to read about the country I want to visit and pick out the places and activities that sound interesting to me.

Yeah I want to travel with my best friend but her parents don't allow us to go.
What should I do. I have no other option except this. So i can't go to anywhere.

I did once with a friend and her friends. We went to Beijing, China following tours.
It is fun and all her friends are very 'sporting' and we laugh a lot. It seems she and her friends travel to overseas every year.
However, in my opinion, if we plan to have our own itineries, it is better to have
friends that enjoy the same interest because that way both parties can enjoy and optimize the time spent on traveling. I like your idea of trying the local delicacies, visit places of interest that depicts the country's culture and architectures.
I enjoyed both 'group tours' and 'free & easy' where we can set our own itineries.
For countries which I have language barriers, I would join tours and do some extend stay to try their local delicacies and visit museums at our own pace and time. Normally tours are very 'rush' and it is sort of 'glancing/peek' through.
All the best and happy traveling :)

Your trip sounds fun. I would love to visit China Travelling in a group can be fun, but it can also lead to some problems if it is big group and people have very different interests and plans. I once travelled in a big group and we had to split up into smaller groups, because we wanted different things. I agree with you, it is best to travel with a group of friends who share same interests, that way it is easier to enjoy the trip and the time we spend together.

My friend and I both travel by car to the nearby states, such as Florida, and Kentucky and other places. We never actually have the chance to travel outside the country. We definitely want to see different cultures, and the places you like to go such as museum, art galleries, and local restaurants etc....... Someday, we will plan a trip together outside the country though.

I have never been to Florida, Kentucky or any other places in the US, but I hope that I will get the chance to go there one day. I think that it is interesting to see different cultures and as I live in Europe it has been relatively easy for me to visit other countries than my own. Next time I would like to travel around in the UK. It will take a while before I will be able to travel again as I have lots of bills to pay at the moment, but hopefully one day...

If you really like to travel with her, just for once try to go with what she like so that she might get the feeling how to be with you abroad. Who knows, she might like it and the next time you travel she might agree with your terms. Yeah, I have friends who travels with me both local and international trips. On our trips, they do agree always to plan our trips and they trust me with the kind of accommodation and activities I choose for them.

My friend and I sometimes talk about travelling together. I am not sure if it would be a good idea, I really like her as a person, but we have very different wishes about destination and activities. Yes, maybe I should try to travel her way or maybe we can find some kind of compromise
