anybody do proofreading and can tell me how much to charge? i've been asked to do some proofreading, it will be about 20 pages and i'll have 5 days to compete the task. i've done it before but i was working for the organisation so they know my abilities. I know i'm working in a poorer country and so i'll have to adjust my figues. could you please include where you come from in your answer.

You say you have done proofreading before but you were working for the organization. How much were you paid for doing that work? Use that as a basis for determining what you should be paid. I am not a proof reader...in fact not much of a reader but I do know that it is a critical job that must be done correctly. You should then be compensated for what you do according to the local standard. However if you are very good at what you do then you should be compensated accordingly. The following website may give you some ideas. http://www.theproofreaders.com/pricing.htm

I was a full time member of staff placed in the organisation on placement, i was funded for my time but not paid. confusing situation but basically it leaves me with no guidelines. thanks for the guidelines, i've seen a couple of these but i'm interested to see how much people really charge as this seems quite high for a non-professional.

Well as I said I am not at all familiar with this type of work but it seems to me you are talking about taking on free-lance work. Basically working for yourself. If that is the case I would think you will need proof of what you have done and references. I have done contract work for development work with computers. What I did however was went to work for a placement company that set the rate based upon my experience. As I had considerable they set the rate at $60,000 a year. I was paid directly on a monthly basis for as long as the contract held out. If you want to do this all on your own I assume you have the necessary contacts to get the work. If so I would think they could give you some idea of what the going rate is. If not then the Internet is the place to begin making that determination. I found the web site I passed to you in about 3 minutes. So there are countless others. My best to you. Wish I could help more.

Its more depend on time and money coast..like if you have to make phone call to verify no or address etc etc than you must add such coast too.if that work can be done in 4 or 5 days I will charge around $20 excluding phone call expensive.I think $15-20 is enough but again its more depend on employer how much he is willing to pay.

Hi! I'm from Philippines. I have knowledge about proofreading 'coz that's one of my work before aside from data encoding and picture cropping. Until now, I'm still interested to accept that kind of work. How much you can pay for me for the task? I can work on that as soon as possible. If you're interested, I'm very much interested. Thank you.
