Breaking news is that the Sup.Ct. has ruled in favor of the Westboro Baptist Church of Topeka, Kan. Holding that the 1st Amendment protects these fundamentalist's attention getting anti-gay protests outside military funerals. The Court voted 8-1 today ... the decision "upheld" an appeals court ruling that threw out a $5 million judgment to the father of a Marine who sued church members after they picketed his son's ceremony. ...... Okay, is this becoming a greatful nation or an ungrateful one??? If interested, you may read further at the Washingtonpost (.com)

Headline from a hypothetical futuristic matersfish presidency (or dictatorship): Breaking news: In an unprecedented show of power today, President Fish decreed that America's draft be reimplemented, effective immediately. Surprisingly, in what can only be described as implausible and perplexing, the only Americans drafted to head speedily overseas to stand on the front lines in combat were the notorious Phelps' and other members of the widely hated Westboro Baptist Church.

Wow Gladys, it looks like we hit this topic about the same time! The sad fact is, the court is right. As detestable as these pissants are, we can't pick and choose who deserves rights based on the target of their protests. There are better ways to make these idiots irrelevant, without making them the victims they want to become.

Well that is why we have people like this to throw counter protest. Videos from Youtube.com http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XuMU6O7UGGM http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j7Of_2ykZpQ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G10T_Ih222E http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rP6gneH1DRU http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W5WysC_Hs_Q This is the United States where you can spread messages like the WBC does but well people can respond in there own peaceful ways above are some of those. Which is awesome.

Wow, 8 t0 1! But if it's a peaceful protest what can you do? One may not like it and it may be not to everyone's taste but it is a free country.

THey do have the right. The court made the right decision. But their IS another way to stop them. They are doing it for publicity. They are doing it to get people talking about them...to pay attention to them. So the answer is simple...ignore them and they will go away. All these court battles and coverage on CNN is exactly what they want. But if we all turn our backs on them they won't be getting the attention they want. The protests won't get getting them what they want...so they will either stop and go home (not real likely) or the will move on to protesting somewhere else. In that case we just keep ignoring them. Sooner or later they will get a clue and get tired of putting all that work into it and just getting ignored as a response.

What they do is disgusting, but if we try to take away freedom of speech from groups we dislike we lose our own rights. It is offensive, but legal.

I agree. But, legal is not always correct.

I have to agree with the SC. We must protect Freedom of Speech and Freedom to Assemble. What the Group is doing is despicable but if the Government can stop that what next we can't criticize the actions of the government or the actions of our leaders?
