I stumbled upon the government's website and found out that they have declared that March is National Women's Month in the Philippines. I am happy that they give utmost importance to the women. The following are observed during this month in the PH: *Declaring the first week of March of every year as Women’s Week and March 8, 1988 and every year thereafter as Women’s Rights and International Peace Day; *Providing for the observance of the month of March as “Women’s Role in History Month”; *An Act to declare March eight of every year as a working special holiday to be known as National Women’s Day; *Declaring the month of March of every year as “National Women’s Heart Health Month”; *An act providing for the Magna Carta of Women. I have to react though to the 3rd one, they should push a non-working holiday for this.

That's a great goal you have there. We should at least somehow share our part to help each other, we as women. :)

Indeed, you need to assert yourself w/ this kind of people. Women need to know how to protect themselves, be it at home, work or in public.

Good to know about the Philippines government really concerned on women's day for National Women's Month. There should be a special blog domain like blogger.com for women in the Philippines to freely voice-out their rights and things related to it.

That's could really be a good idea. I am not really sure if we already have that, but yes some place where that women can voice out their rights, complains and ideas. Sometimes it is hard to gain support from the govt when it comes to right violation, so thru these blog sites, some women org can read and attend to their needs right away.

I love very much my "Zamboanga City" (ZC) and Zamboangans; although I am not a Pinoy but in between 2009 - 2010, I traveled monthly for a-week-stay in Zamboanga City. I'll visit again because ZC be my selected place in producing my "Apple-iPhone Tourism Video Program".

This is great and also celebrated in the US also, what I would be looking forward more so is if they would allow women to have something like free screenings during the month. Screenings like for mammograms and pap-smears would be an incentive to appreciate the women with a health focused day. But I suppose if they did this then something would need to be created for the men also, after all equal rights come to mind. But still I feel honored though as a woman myself.

Yes you are right as screening could help and assist many with perhaps early detection and preventative measures. Welcome aboard as I see you are farily new to myLot!

Yeah, I actually thought that even during this day, there will be offerings for women-related activities such as examination/checkups for women-related diseases. These can really help a lot as many women do not/cannot prioritize their health anymore because they are tied up w/ household chores, taking care of the baby and work.

screening such as mammograms and pap-smear s far better than whatever celebration th government can offer. at work, there is not such thing as free annual check up to all employees :c

Yes, i know about the 8th march, international women's day. I'm glad ot have such a day because it shows our importance to the world, no matter where we are, and what we are doing. WOmen has rights too, and we have to stand up for our rights. We have to fight for it and stand by our rights. HOw i wish 8th march can be declared as a non working day, for women only, because it's a day dedicated to us, women.

March 8th is the Women's Day. However, it doesn't have a big effect on me because I still have to work and it is just like an ordinary day. Not every woman will have a day off work in this holiday. It depends on. Although I really hope that this festival can be official and therefore all of us will have a day off work. I love China

March 8 is International Women's Day all around the world. While for some countries it is not a holiday, many countries honor their women on that day. In Italy, women get flowers (mimosa) and in Bermuda they honour 100 outstanding women eahc year on that day. Other countries may have other activities as well

Wow! Well good for Italy and good for those countries that really recognizes the works of women. The PH govt should come up w/ such activities so that this holiday can really be felt and would not just be another word of mouth and a "display" that we are observing this day as a women's day, yet nothing's happening.

March is also Women's Month in the U.S. I have mixed reactions, though. If you have a Women's Month, I think you should also have a Men's month. If you want to show equality, don't you think that would be fairer? (Oh, and I'm a woman.)

I'm happy that our government give importance of the roles of women in our country. Without women, I don't know how our men and our children can succeed. I mean they rely always on their decisions and their activities to their mothers. Maybe because we are a matriarchal country. I believe 80% of our men and children are very dependent on their mothers. I agree with you; it should be a non-working holiday so mothers can have day-offs.

I agree, they are dependent to a woman. There's a saying that behind every man's success is a woman. And I believe that.

I am happy to hear that. There are more and more women who are involved in more productive community activities. Knowing that a month long celebration for womanhood is now being observed in the Philippines is indeed a much welcome news for me. Why is it not that visible though? I only got the info here in mylot. I often watch the news and is updated on what is the newest updates. It might not be properly announce or that no posters or tarpaulins are displayed to inform the others about this. I agree with you that women are so busy that we are entitled to a non-working holiday but that would surely draw reaction from the men.

A special non-working holiday for women? What about a special non working holiday for men, a special non working holiday for children 1 year old, then a special non working holiday for 2 year old, and so on?

Cheers to that! Discounts and freebies! We need a break lol! But would be better if they'll give medical discounts too. Check-ups/meds are really expensive nowadays, so unfortunate ones can really benefit on this if they will come up w/ something like it.
