Why do Cats Sit on Almost Anything Except the Floor?

We have a cat at home that loves to sit on papers, gun cases, boxes, etc. I know that cats will get in the way sometimes because petting them is less stressful and they know it, but what if the thing they sit on is not causing any stress? Is there a reason? Or do we just have a funny cat?

Some cats sit on things and some cats sit in things and then, some cats sit under things.
They are classified as: "gazindas", "gazondas" and "gazundas".
My mom had a "gazonda" who walked across a peach colored carpet and sat ON the 6 inches of peach colored THREAD I had dropped and could NOT find!
She didn't even seem to look around and she wasn't in the room when I dropped it!
Her daughter was a "gazinda" and I once saw her try and get her 12 lb body into a Kodak film box! She got all 4 feet in and for about 5 seconds looked like a gray mushroom with a yellow stem!
Now, when a "gazonda" can't get on something, they'll get under it or into it, and the same is true for the others, but you can expect that they will try to achieve their preferred state if they can.

cats naturally perch on things in the wild u often see some types of wild cats perched on rocks or in trees i'm not 100% sure why they do this but I find all four of mine do the same thing and I often come home to find them on the back of the couch and top of the bookshelf I believe it makes them feel safer being able to see their whole enviroment

Cats are just funny and do things their way.My cat sits anywhere. Some times i have to chase it off the bed because it takes up all the space.I just wonder if they are human like creatures because i think the sure act that way.
