If looks could kill, I'd be six feet under.

My dog Jazz, a 10 year old yellow lab, has a hot spot on his right leg.
He continually chews at it and it's gotten worse over the last few days.
So I asked for some advice online, and someone graciously allowed me to have their ecollar so he would stop chewing.
Well, of course, Jazz despises this collar, and keeps giving me dirty looks.
He's trying to paw it off, and one of his claws already got caught in one of the holes.
But he's going to have to get used to it as it will be on him for a while.
My cat doesn't know what to think of it, he's never seen a collar before, and even he started to sniff it.
But, until this hot spot clears up, my dog will probably hate me until it's off.
In the meantime, I have to give him a lot of love and attention to keep his attention away from the collar.

Despite giving me a dirty look still, he keeps wagging his tail when I look at him, so I don't think he's too upset about it.

don't let it bother you looks your dog is giving you. I wouldn't say he hates you. He's just saying with that look "do I have to wear this thing?" I think that would be a better thought of what your dog is thinking with that look then he hates you. I am sure your dog still loves you. they say that when a dog loves their owner its for their entire life if u keep your dog that long. I am saying if you don't give the dog to another person. I am not saying you will just trying to say how long they will love you. Dogs are cooler than people at times I believe. they listen to you talk for hours if you did it. They don't interrupt or argue with you, and their there for you when your happy, sad or mad. No wonder their thought of "Man's best friend".

I'm sure he will hate you because I'm sure it is uncomfortable for him and there is no way he could possibly understand that it is there to help him. I hope you are able to treat the spot in such a way that it heals. (is it an open sore or something else?)I hope he start feeling better soon! Have a great day!

Yes he has an open sore on his leg, I've included a picture of it.
It's not the clearest photo, doesn't show well how bad it is.
I'm hoping that the collar helps it heal faster since he wont be able to get at it.

I can't win with him.
He's found a way to get the collar off, and anything I put on the wound gets licked or chewed off.
I'll be taking him to the vet in a couple of weeks when I can afford to, I've been told how much the initial fee will be, and it's a reliable vet office.

I hope you are covering it and using neosporin or something similar. Hopefully the collar works and he will come to accept it. At least do basic first aid as if it were an injury on yourself. Good luck with that!

you are doing the right thing with the collar. The only suggestion i have,is to put a bit of cortizone cream on the spot,it might help the healing process. I had a dog that used to lick or chew his paw,and I put cream,a bandage, wrapped in plastic and put a sock on it taped down with surgical tape.would you believe that it worked for a bit,but he became an expert at chewing it of in record time!!!!!!!! Then he got "coned" and he hated it and me! He was big,and had difficulty turning around and navigating around furniture!!!,Tried to tell him that it was for his own good.LOL

The cat is sitting in front of him and seems to be ok with it.
It's bad enough when the cat is sitting at the top of the stairs when the dog comes in and swats at him for getting in his space, but at least he's not bothering with the dog right now.

haha very funny. I have a lab as well
Maybe you want to kind of clean the spot for him or actually take him to see the vet to make sure the spot is not infected or anything.

I will be taking him to the vet if him wearing the collar doesn't help it heal.

That collar is very uncomfortable for dogs, I don't think that would last for my dog for a day. Hope your dog will be ok soon.

Aww, poor dog! He's even sulking in his picture! But, yes, just put up with his hate looks because that is what's good for him. He probably hates, too, that the cat has gotten interested in him.

He's been sulking for a while. But after he got dinner, he's gone to sleep and isn't giving me the evil eye anymore.

yeah, your dog will probably hate you for letting him wear the collar. I wonder if he thinks he looks stupid with it-- I know I would! My dog and cat always hate it when I put clips and accessories on them. But he's very lucky to have a loving owner. Always soothe him whenever he's agitated by his collar.

It is almost like they have no expression that makes us wonder what could the dog be thinking at the moment. Sorry he has to undergo this but it will be better for him later, once it is off.
Good luck with him!
