Old school exercising.

I pulled out my jump rope the other day and now my calves are getting sore! I don't remember the last time I jump roped but I remember it being easier to do when I was little. Some of these simple old-school items like jump rope, hula hoop, trampolines, are probably the best to exercise with. When was the last time you used these items? Do you still have any? Oh, there's a girl rollerblading outside!

I gosh I use to hula hoop like no tomorrow. lol.. Outside of my stationary bike I do not do this any longer. I am sure I can still hula hoop but have not in so long. I still own roller blades and when we go to Eureka during the summer for a month I do roller blade there. I like to roller blade at the beach because it is fun to do so with the many that specifically go there to roller blade. I can do a little slow turns with the roller blades, but by no means like a pro.

I would love to learn to roller blade but I know I'll need to wait until I lose a little more weight though. : ) Namaste-Anora

It is so much fun and you would be surprised as to how much weight you can loose rollerblading.

Lore- I just used my daughter's skipping rope the other day because I was teaching her how to skip rope. I realized I have a long way to go on my weight loss to get to where I was when it was easy to do this! However, I do hula hoop on my Wii Fit. You use the same motions and I love it! It brings back so many memories of my childhood that were pleasant so I find it relaxing at the same time. Just remember to stretch before you do it again! Namaste-Anora

I remember doing that on my friend's wii fitness. I think that program is really good because it even calculates the imbalances in your body.

Darn, we are going to have to give in now. My boyfriend's daughter visits us twice a year from England for a month and a few weeks ago she was hinting for a wii here. She has one but it is a European one so the games here do not work well. I will now encourage as hula hooping on the wii - weeee, I think I might just love that.

I would do a good stretch and get those calfs going. These things you mention are good for stamina building and are really good for you. They are hard because these muscles haven't been used in a while. You want to start out with some stretches and if you get pretty sore take some Tylenol or whatever you use before you start.

I love the sore feeling actually, I wouldn't want to take meds for that. I feel so much more revived!

I used to love gym class when I was in school. My girls have jump ropes and hula hoops but they barely use them. We had a trampoline until last year. It was fun jumping on it sometimes. My girls loved it when they were younger but I suppose they grew bored with it.

They are still active..well..when its not so cold outside...thank goodness. We replaced the trampoline with a pool. I think that little one of mine is part fish

Jump rope is my favorite exercise for a fast workout. If the boxers use it, it must be good right? I always feel it in my abdomen and my legs. My friend got me a jumprope that has small weights in the handles, and it makes my arms burn like crazy. I read that it burns around 10 calories a minute depending on how fast and high you jump.

I never had the balance to jump rope. A trampoline might be fun, but then I'm a lot heavier than I used to be. LOL Hula hoop? Now there's an idea. I will have to track one down somewhere. That's good, because it doesn't take a lot of balance, and I can keep both of my feet on the ground. :)

These items are not so old school these days. My grand kids have had trampolines, hoola-hoops,jump ropes, and skates. What seems more like 'old school' is the energy and physical ability to enjoy these types of exercises,That's what you hardly see anymore. (LOL Spoken like a true blue 51 sitter too mucher) The good news is that if we get the juices flowing we can still begin to enjoy much of that old good time well-being feeling from our old bones in present day living.
