Does your company enforce mandatory overtime?

I'm working as a temp for a company. Last week they enforced a mandatory overtime for all employees in our department. At least 6 hours. I don't mind working overtime once in awhile but this is through the entire month of March. I'm working the overtime but my contract end with them in the beginning of April. I find it sad that they are working temp employees like dog and in the end we get nothing out of it. I referring to a permanant job. What are your thought?

We do overtime in our company all the time. And most of the time we're even not paid for it. For example, my husband hasn't had a day off since January. He works from Monday to Sunday, 11 hours a day. I work five days a week, but also 10-12 hours. I don't know what to tell you. Look for another job, but in this crisis I don't think any employer will respect your thoughts about overtime and will exploit you any way they can. At least in our country this is the situation.

Yes, I would agree with you. Companies to talk about past employees even if it is against the employment laws. I think more so in the smaller communities. I live in a smaller community and I'm hearing comments all the time. I hope your husband gets some time off soon. I know that can burn a person out. That's why I'm working a temp job in the first place. I was working 7 days a week and on call 24/7 no vacation in over 2 years. I did get a huge vacation payout when I left.

I also hope thing will get better for us sooner otherwise we will both burn out. I've tried to oppose these non-paid overtime hours with no breaks at all but all I got was black points on my file. No one loves people with their own opinion.

I used to work with a company who asks us to render overtime work everyday for at least an hour and even ask us to come work on our rest days. I hated those times when I used to work for them. It gave me lots of stress and no time to rest especially with the pressure they give their employees. In your case, being a temporary employee at a company that asks you to work over time is quite demanding and too much to handle. That should not be the case. It's best for you to go and find another job that treats their employees right.

I find it intersting that management always get their rest days. I guess that a perk of being management. They don't realize though it tend to make their employees resent them.

Hi! I find this so interesting. My previous employment had this kind of system. They often enforced mandatory overtime and they didn't mind the other responsibility's the employees had. I understand at first but as time went by, things became worst. Imagine, if the employee is already filed leave because of once in a lifetime occasion, the administration would undoubtedly cancelled your leave in order for your attendance. And if you opposed them, they threaten the employee as SUBORDINATION. See? I mean, overtime is normal and part in our work but to much like taking our right as human and as employee is already unreasonable for me. Review your right in the Labor code to justify yourself.

Seems like the employee has not right anymore. I company can terminate your employment for no reason at all. The sad thing is some companies are getting rid of experience and hiring new bees for less pay. Not good in some fields.

Overtime is not welcome in my company. We only work overtime when we must finish goods in hurry. I think that you should look for another job which have better salary and don't inquire much overtime works.

The nature of my job requires me to work for 40 hours per week. Worst is that I had to work more than that. I must wake up at 5:10 am to check the attendance of all the teachers in the clinical area at the same time check the requirements of the students. At around 2pm, I had to go to school for an overtime. Work starts at 6am and ends at 2pm. 2pm to 6:30 is my overtime but i'm not paid from 2pm to 3pm everyday for more than a month. More work, more responsibility, same pay. no overtime pay. Wish that i have a better job, a job that won't exploit the ordinary employees. I really understand how you feel. If you are conscious of your rights your company will blacklist you from other companies. It did happen to my co-worker. I had no choice but to work.

You are correct. They will give a bad name to other potential employers if you don't abide by their so called policy. It's not right. I do know that.

I work in my company for four months now, fortunately, I have not been enforced a mandatory overtime. But, there is no doubt that I hate working overtime. However, If the company is in a very important and busy business time, a mandatory overtime would be acceptable, because we a part of the company, we have the duty to help our company through tough times.

Yes, we do need to help our company out. I do think their is a limit though. To have temp employees and work them 7 days a week to get them caught up. Their employees should work 7 days a week. The temps and help M-F. Which is the only shift I was hired for on my contract. I like your avatar!!

There is another division of the company that has been doing that, and they are burning people out like crazy. Fortunately, I don't have that.

Yes, my company has mandatory overtime in extreme situations. No one likes it but we never get enough volunteers when we need them. My last company always got voluntees to work overtime and rarely had to pull mandatory overtime.

The company that I'm working for does not enforced mandatory overtime, however Officers are not entitled to claim for overtime pay.

In our company, we are not allowed for overtimes. It has to be so very urgent so it could be authorized for that. Maybe in your case, there is a need to finish all the works that has to be done, because there is a deadline. But all of you should be fairly compensated for it and maybe it would be better to ask the employees if they can render OT.
