History Repeats Itself

From the past, Spaniards colonized Philippines and during colonization, there were three kinds of group of people that stayed and lived here in the Philippines. The rich, the politics and the church. I observed that the system does not change at all even if, the spaniards were no longer here in the Philippines. The rich is getting richer and richer. The politics are corrupt and the church is always meddling to the state even if, there is a law that says the state and the church must be separated to each other. I was wondering, what's the use of getting rid all the Spaniards here in the Philippines if it's the same as before? What's the use of being free from the Spaniards colonization if the system does not change at all? It's like we're still under the Spanish regime.

I guess it seems that we had indeed inherited a not-so-good system from the Spaniards, but there were still changes to that effect. It maybe for the good or for the worse, but what we had under the Spanish regime differs now. Our form of government is patterned after the Americans, which had colonized us also. Come to think of it, a lot have been patterned after the Americans. Our public school system, health care, social security, banking system and a lot more. With regards to the old rich, it seems this had also changed. It is now the Chinese that owns most of the businesses in our country. They're the rich people now. And the Catholic church doesn't really meddle in state affairs as like in the Spanish times where they can dictate the laws themselves. Nowadays, the church can only lobby or voice out their dissension :)

When the Spaniards occupied our territory, there's only one thing that they have taken away from us and that is our power to choose. With them gone, I guess what's happening right now in our country is already our fault because after successfully kicking them out, we regained our power to choose. It's up to us whether we step up to the next level or not and the way I see it, we're not choosing to walk the right path. I agree with you that what's happening right now in our country seems like a replay of the Spanish regime and I believe that the most effective solution would be waking up and choosing to do the right thing. This is our country and this is our responsibility. We should stop blaming the past for what is happening in the present because we always have a choice and the freedom to choose it.

Well we all have our flaws as a country... Its culture. If we do not change our old ways, we will never really get past where we are today.life is about overcoming... If we do not learn from mistakes we will always just see the same things hapenin all over again. Yes, its like we never learn from our mistakes.

Well we were not in that dark era that is why we can always say that things have not changed at all. But what is here now is that we have achieved freedom to rule by ourselves not ruled by any free nation. I agree that the way things are going is like repeating itself but I think we are far much better than before. I guess our being poor is not because the rich are getting richer but majority is not taking advantage that freedom that we inherited many years ago. The rich taking advantage of the poor is just an idea concocted by our minds. Look at Manny Pacquiao and many other successful people around they went outside of that thinking that they are enslave by anyone and made a name of their own. If we are still under Spanish rule do you think these people like Manny Pacquiao and other successful people coming from the poor sectors of society. I tell you we are much and far more better than under the Spanish Rule.

Good point. I guess that this will always be the system in this country. The value on money has got into them. These days, everything is just about the money. Only a few now cares for the other. Sad thing is, they take away things from other people because they say that it is for improvement but there has been no developments. We live in lies. Conspiracy takes over.
