Work has become the world for working people and has gotten used to the everyday work routine. It has for me. I had not given this a thought until i was told to use my long unused vacation leave. Suddenly, it was..."Where do I go and what will I do?" thing for me.
Vacation breaks could be unsettling for workaholics or one used to the 8-hour routine.
Have you ever felt this way with work and having breaks? What activities kept you occupied during those unwanted breaks? Thanks for sharing.

I am new to the work that I do now. We were told by our boss that it is more like a 24/7 kind of work. It was shocking at first because it would mean that there will be no breaks. After giving a thought of it thou, I think that our team can still manage to have some fun in between our work schedules. We are now even planning to go out of town.
I do not think that the pressure especially with the time with work really is a problem. We should still have little breaks just to unwind. We need to give our body some well deserved rest.

Hi jhiadro. Work cycle is like our life cycle. You pass childhood, youth and adult. It is when you get into late adulthood in work cycle that a pattern sets in. And just as we say to our youth - enjoy your youth - I would say enjoy your stage of work cycle now.
Perhaps I am now in my late adulthood in my work cycle where set behavior patterns become hard to break. But I agree with you that our body need some well deserved rest...as our mind.
Thanks for your response. Have a nice day.

Hi figur,
Time away from the normal routine can be a time to reconstruct oneself, to be able to recharge the lagging spirit. We go to work going on autopilot and forgetting about the spirit that keeps us sustained day in and day out. Working like an automaton is unlike working with a soaring spirit. Time away from work can be a good opportunity to sustain it.
I always plan my vacation days ahead to keep me from the workaholic blues when the time to stay still comes. I use to roam the mountains or the seas near my home whenever the fancy seizes me.

Hi! I envy you your mountain and sea. I would love to spend an idle day or two in such places. But for extended number of days, i think I would miss the hustle and bustle. I love the breaks we get but I noticed that after a week, I get fidgety and think of all those papers piling on my desk. Sigh!

hi since I lived six miles from the beach and as a senior c itizen when i was working I would take the bus for a dollar all day pass and walk along the Pac ific and relax. pick up shells and watch the seals and the pelicans and then end up in Charlie's Chili for the best chili in California. do something you like to do thats close to home and all
thats familiar as workaholics do not cotton to new unusual stuff
but like all thats homey and comforting.

Hello Hatley! You know, I think of this sometimes. Just getting on a bus going somewhere without a thought. Free my mind of everyday work and worries. But it is all in my mind.
I love the scenario you described. I know I can still gather my courage to do that. What you described is what I did once a long time ago...sit all morning in a park that faces the sea and just sat there watching the waves and the children playing on the shore.
Thanks for reminding me. I think I'll do that again one of these days.

Interesting. I have never been confined to a constant 8 hour work so I don't really have this, but I've heard of it many times and it's understandable. I feel like a lot of people keep control with their routines and once it's altered, some people can get anxious. I think it's best to keep it at a balance as much as possible.. maybe you can use it a day at a time, once a week. (Adding a day to your weekends.)

Hello, well I have that thought also when I am very workaholic before. Having a break is good. Do an escapade trip or tour out of the country, best relaxation is go to a beach with your loved one. Its nice to have a break once or twice, it will make you feel good and cathc up on things that you missed.

Being workaholic can be addictive it is soooo difficult to break away from. And taking a trip or tour can be very expensive.
But am I can go to a beach. The thought is really relaxing.
Thanks for your response and have a nice day, ajamiro.

I am a teacher's aide and have summers off. After about 3 weeks, I am ready to get back into the routine of going to work. During the summer months off, I get caught up on my scrapbooking. Last summer, I redid my parents wedding album for their anniversary. this summer is going to be my husband's pictures from child hood. I am pretty good about spending a few hours a month to keep caught up on my daughters scrapbooks.
I also love to read. I can sometimes get a whole book read in a day over the summer, especially during the 5 days that my mother in law comes and takes my daughter.

Whenever I got a decent break from work I did whatever I could to have fun and relieve pent up stress from work. Try doing things with some friends, do some activities you like, watch a little t.v. if you want. The important thing about time off is the FREE time. You can do whatever you want!
