hi there! quicksilver here., i am some kind of being confused for buying a digitel SLR camera. I'v always dreaming to own a SLR camera someday. due to improving technology, consumers like me are somewhat experiencing dilemma on which product is better. Actually, all products are good, but generally they say that Nikon works best for a newbie like me in photography. Is there any info that i may chnge my mind in buying a nikon? which is better? what do you think:)?

I'm another one with a Sony. mine's an a390, and I love it. the alpha series Sonys are quite well regarded as a well performing, but not too expensive SLR. I am very very happy with the results I've had from mine. I do work with quite a lot of photography students and enthusiasts, and they're all more in favour of Canon than Nikon. I think the only downside with a Sony is that not as many shops seem to sell lenses for them, but it's not so much of a problem. If I'm looking to get a new lens, I don't mind shopping around to find a supplier at a good price.

I'd say they're equally good, and that a Canon isn't more complicated than a Nikon. It's more a question about what you like and what you're used too. I've used my friends Nikon cameras, the one thing that annoys me with the cheaper ones is that they start on ISO 200 instead of 100. I've got a Canon, mainly because the SLR we had when I was a child was a Canon so when I bought my own I got a Canon. Now I've got lot of lenses etc so it's not really any point in switching. If you've got lot of friends with either Canon or Nikon, going for that brand might be a good idea because then you can borrow things from eachother. I always do that when I travel with a British friend of mine, both of us have Canon DSLRs so when we go hiking, we bring one or two lenses each, not 3 or 4, and swap on the way.

I think both brands are of good quality and have been in the market for so long. You have to check what is your preference as to the megapixel, the zooming effect and the color quality. I guess both brands have that criteria, you can also consider the color and the price.

Hi quick, I shall not impose my bias here for I am a satisfied user of a Sony A200 DSLR camera (for three years), with its 10.1MP of resolution ans 3x zoom lens. However, I could go for more than that when I noticed some compact siblings of this model that has 14MP, panoramic shots, and 10x zoom, all in a compact unit, the Sony DSC H55 and a price half lower than the DSLR. I have been drooling for this unit for more than six months now. Nikon and Cannon has been an established camera maker but I doubt the durability of their products. Most of my experiences favor Sony in terms of product durability, reliability and performance.
