This is not strictly true. Strawberry plants have flowers followed by fruits. What we eat (and call a strawberry) is actually the swollen axis (or matrix) which holds the true fruit (which are the seeds). Strawberries, roses, apples, pears and many other plants belong to the family Rosacea but their fruits develop in very different ways. You can think of a strawberry as a rose hip turned inside out.
Although we call many things which are sweet and juicy 'fruits', in fact we hardly ever eat the real fruit, which is the seed held inside (or outside, in the case of the strawberry). Nuts, pumpkin and melon seeds are examples of true fruit.

Hi. jordan29bc. Welcome to myLot! I would think that, strawberries is a fruit because of the berries itself. Strawberries, do favor a flower in way. It just taste sweet like a fruit. I don't think that flowers taste really good. I tasted one a long time ago and it has a bitter dry taste. Strawberries are sweet and juicy.

Is that so? Then if this is true why then could we eat strawberries but not roses! I am just kidding dear. But seriously, I know strawberries belong to the genus Fragaria, of the rose family, but I thought this does not mean strawberry is categorized as a flower and not fruit. I've always know strawberry as fruit and it does taste like fruit and not a flower, isn't it? Well, whatever.... fruit or flower, strawberry remains rich in Vitamin C and hence we should eat more and more.

I don't really feel it matters that it's biologically considered a flower, and all fruits are flowers anyway. Interesting though.
