do you have a Kindle or other E reader? Do you like it?

I got a Kindle for Christmas. I had been wanting one, even though I have many books, regular books, that I haven't read yet. There are a lot of free books you can download with your Kindle, and I wanted to take advantage of that. Amazon.com offers all the classics for free. Many of the classics I read in college, but I wanted to read some of them again. The other thing I like about the Kindle is that you can store many books on it and it saves a lot of space. You can store over 1000 books on the one little device. I have a couple hundred bucks and they take up so much room. When I move, I may have to get rid of them because they're so hard to carry and transport. But with the Kindle, I can have all those books and carry them around very easily. Still, I'm having a hard time adjusting to reading a device rather than reading from a regular book. It takes a little getting used to. I like the feel of the book in my hand, so it's hard to get adjusted to reading the Kindle. I'm wondering if anyone out there has a Kindle or other e-book reader, and what you think of it. Do you ever think that electronic devices will replace actual books?

The only reason that the classics are free is because their copyright (or whatever it is called), has expired. I think it will take some time to get used to the feeling of reading from that small screen. I don't have an e-book reader, but I really want to get one! :)

A few years ago I bought an Ebookwise 1150 (from Fictionwise), and last year got a Kindle. Still like my Ebookwise better. No as light or slim as the Kindle but has more the feel of a book. Plus it has a back light, and pages are numbered (although it is apparently a new feature on the Kindle too). The problem is, even with the added memory card, it can only contains 200 books or so. An avid reader, I had to constantly remove books to add new ones. Not that the books disappears altogether, they're still on my online bookshelf, but I like to have my favorite ones on hands. So last year I bought a Kindle, mostly for the memory (up to 3500 books)and I was presently surprised to learn that I could email ebooks directly from my fictionwise bookshelf to my Kindle. So now I store all my favorites on it and, depending on the price, I buy my ebooks either on Fictionwise (15% on new releases every week)or Amazon. And I think that ultimately, ebooks will replace books as they take up less space. Not to mention that, like you said, many are free as the copyright has expired.

I don't have a Kindle or any other e-book reader at this point. I do see many advantages of having something along those lines but I LOVE books! I can also see storing information on a kindle, or the random few things here and there but I prefer an actual book over a kindle any day. What if your kindle malfunctions? runs out of batteries? You lose it? There goes ALL of your books. Not just one, but ALL of them. If you move every couple of months I can see how it would be nice to have it all on one little device...but at least back all of your books up on an external hard drive or something. Books last for the most part. Electronic devices, not so much (and I do say this from personal experience). Enjoy your Kindle.
