I watched the third sequel of Bourne Identity for the nth time this morning and once again I got amazed at what music can do to enhance the movie. I love the music background of this movie (though I didn't catch the title of the music). The rhythm of the music suggests the urgency and the accelerating pace of the action scene that adds color to the movie.
How about you? Do you ever notice the music that goes along with movie scenes and appreciate it or you focus mainly on the actions of characters or the thread of the story?

Pity isn't it if the music and the movie scenes don't match? Or if the music drowns the dialogue or even the scenes. But I guess this happens only in not so good movies.
Thanks for your response. Have a nice day.

hi figurativeme I always seem to notice the music in a movie
and I can tell at once if this score matches the type of movie.
I have seen thrillers where the music actually was so patently
obvious that something dreadful was about to happen that instead
of enhancing the scary part it was funny and I giggled
just as the catastrophe happened. people were scowling at
me but I got the feeling of absurd out of it. if only they
had been a bit more subtle it would have worked. The phantom of the opera movie had the most gorgeous music in it and it fit the movie
to a tee.music must be just right for the kind of movie its being
used in ,if it is then the movie to me seems perfect.

Hello hatley...
sorry for the late response. Been away. But when I read your response I actually smiled on the giggle part. That happened to me, too, the wanting to blurt "Absurd!" or regret for a waste of material.
Saw the Phantom of the Opera and love it, too. And the music. Wish I could play the music on the piano if I can get hole of its piano score.
Thanks and have a nice day.

I actually love one of the songs used in Shrek movies.the title of the song is I'm A Believer.it was sung by Smash Mouth.I love how the song goes,"when I saw her face, now I'm a believer".the song is the perfect backdrop telling the love story of Shrek and Fiona.

Hi coco.... Like the song, too, though I don't know much the lyrics. I am a believer, though, is a nice catchphrase. You got me interested and will look up the lyrics.
Have a nice day, coco.

Music is important in filmmaking. Just think of Stanley Kubrick's films and how much they would lose without those brilliant scores. A good filmmaker knows how to use music to enhance the impact of a scene or sequence, and to communicate with the viewer on an emotional level. I think Kubrick is the best example to this.

The music for "Requiem for a Dream" is absolutely amazing, and builds up the tension perfectly for the movie. You should definately check that out if you appreciate music that goes well on film. The music is made by Clint Mansell and the movie is directed by Darren Aronofsky.

Well, I remembered the movie "The Tourist" which had lovely soundtracks. Actually it made the movie more beautiful because of its music probably.
Also in "Enchanted", the part when they were dancing in the floor, Giselle and Robert, together with that lovely song of Jon McLaughlin, it made me want to watch the whole movie over and over again.
Well, in my subject which is "Production", I have learned that whenever you add music or song to your movie, it should match that specific scene where you are going to fill it.
One main reason why music/song is needed in films, is because it serves as a great way to transfer real emotions to your viewers, making them feel as if they were on the scene, and allowing them to be part of it, making it somewhat real.
Therefore, there is a big number of chance that your viewers will get your message or the message of the movie, since films serves as means of communicating with people.
That's all I know for now ;)
I'm still studying more about production and sort of stuffs like that. ;)
