On the occasion of our marriage anniversary, I had sent sari and blouse sets to our family friends in Davao in Philippines and Wisconsin in USA. But they don’t know how to wear a sari, today I have sent this video from YouTube to help wearing a sari on special occasions. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YJDCGcSQmkw
I think this might be useful or at least interesting for my friends abroad; hence I am sharing here.
What the ladies in your home wear, ever worn a Sari?
Please respond.
Comment on the video too, seeing this can you wear a Sari?
Professor ‘Bhuwan’. .
Cheers have a lucky day ahead.

Living in London since my birth made me unaware as to how to should wear a sari but hopefully I had a grandmother who is from India and she taught me how to wear it. She wanted me to marry an Indian in fact but this is not the case as I got married to a French whom later was a grandma's favorite.
When I wore the sari for the first time it was a horrible sight to watch then I gradually learn it well how we wear it and how should we walk with it. I wear mostly trousers at home and in the office, then dresses for occasions or sometimes at home too. Then there are skirts. At home we are two ladies, me and my little daughter who is one year old then my husband and my twin.

I never have wore a sari. When I am at home I will wear sweatpants and a sweatshirt in the winter. In summer it is usually wear a tank top and shorts. If I am hot I only wear a bathrobe. Mainly in the summer I''ll do that.

hi professor,
i am so used to wearing a loose shirt and shorts when i am at home except when it is cold. during cold season, i wear either pajamas or jogging pants and some sweat shirt.
i find the ladies there in your place very nationalistic for wearing the saree. nowadays, i dont find any lady wearing our national costume here in the philippines except during cultural presentations.
while my hubby was in india on business tour, he got one silk saree for me. when i received my saree it felt awkward at first because i didnt know what to do with so much cloth. it felt funny but of course i wanted to wear one.
with the video, it will help more how to go about it.
thank you for this discussion. have a very nice day.

Hello Professor,
Please accept my sincere thanks for the choice of gift that you have sent. It will not only promote Indian tradition but will also make the person feel the essence of prosperous Indian culture and its greatness.
In my family, most of the women wears sari only. Even my sisters wear sari on special occasions like marriages and when they have some function in their colleges or schools.
Personally, I like sari very much and have requested my wife to wear sari only. I have gifted her almost every kind of sari like Banarasi, Jari, cotton, golden-wire-work, etc.
There are many ways to wear a sari, an Indian woman can easily distinguish and tell us. I am not very sure, but have seen that it can be worn in many ways. Yes, the way how a sari is worn also depends on the culture and region in India. Bengali women wear sari in an extremely different style than a north Indian woman.
I have seen the video and I appreciate it. I will definitely use it whenever someone will ask me, "Please tell me how to wear a sari."

I think Saris are beautiful. We have some women even in my small community in the US who wear Sari. It is more difficult I can see by the video than I would have imagined. I think that was a very nice gift that you have given for an anniversary present.

Hello my friend Professor2010 Ji,
Im think this Wedding day Gift must have been one sided. I think your family friends must have been born and brought up in those countries only, nbut it is really appriciable that after you have send them Vidio clip from U-Tube, they will make use of them and as well as teach others as well in that area. Saree wearing is diminishing day by day and it is now restricted to specialoccasions only. But I observe many gforigners come and wear saree here. They lik eit very much. Maintaining is costly affair. Thanks.
May God bless You and have a great time.

This video was very interesting to me because I've seen people wearing saris in my life but I would have never have known how to wear one. The reason for that is that I am not an Indian person and I really don't know anyone that is an Indian person. That said, I think after watching that video that if I was to ever be given a sari I would be able to figure out how to properly wear it and possibly look good in it as well.

Ohhhh thanks a lot sir to discuss on this topic because from yesterday in mind to discuss on this topic wearing sari. In our Indian tradition mostly ladies likes sari. In our Maheshwari Community mostly ladies wearing sari in their home also. Only in some exception cases like in metropolitan areas lady can wear jeans or salwar suit. Otherwise in this community only sari are allowed after marriage. I wear sari in my home also and I love sari.

hi professor I just returned home a day ago from being in a rehab hospital after a bad fall. while in Care House I saw one Indian
lady with the most beautiful pale pink silky looking sari. It
was gorgeous and she was also very pretty. I have always been
intrigued at how Indian women don saris and it looks so elegant
and yet it looks like just a long length of beautiful fabric.
I have never seen any buttons or closures so I can see its all
in knowing how to fold the fabric to make a beautiful gown
from it with no pins or other help. They do look comfortable
and sure are very attractive. I do not know if I could learn
to fold it in such a way I would not be showing unwanted
parts of my body. I have never worn one but do admire them so
much.

hi Prof, yes there are plenty of Indians here in the Philippines and I no longer see women especially the young people wear the Sari, it's a pity because it's such a beautiful dress. During the 70's when I was a boy, we use to live in Manila, there was a district there called Paco and there was an Indian settlement there, I was really fascinated to see the beautiful Indian women when we pass there on the way to the market, the sari is very beautiful, BTW our National costume is called "Saya", you think they are related in some way?( although ours has Spanish influence)
