Our new kitten, Smokey

About a month ago, a (local) friend on Facebook posted about some kittens being dumped outside her house. Me being the sucker that I am for cats, instantly replied that I would take one even though there was the possibility of the kitten being a female. This poor little kitten wouldn't have even been 6 weeks old, it was so tiny! Well, she fitted right in for the first couple of weeks and had even befriended my older cat (who has "issues"). Yep, this little kitten was doing really well and on it's way to being a confident cat. However, for the past two weeks, Perth has had a record heatwave and the little kitten doesn't seemed to have handled it very well. Don't get me wrong, I have been washing it and doing everything "right" to keep it cool. At the start of the week, I realised that she was in fact a he. Since then, he has been a right little so and so - running up the curtains, attacking the kids, hissing and spitting and everything, being totally crazy. . . Do you have a crazy kitten? How long were they crazy for?

Your cat probably has problems with the demarcation of territory. after all it is the cat and all animals need to delineate their territory. you should speak to a specialist in cats. both your cats have the same gender? same gender if they feel threatened and one of them must be the dominant cat. you must be very careful with them.

Nope, they are both not the same gender as "she" appears to be a "he" - it happens sometimes when you get kittens before they are 8 weeks old. As for asking a cat specialist, well, I've asked me Dad about it (he is THE cat fanatic - sorry Dad, but it's true, LOL!) and he gave me a few examples of "crazy cats" that we have owned over the years, especially when I was younger, and Smokey isn't really all THAT crazy. He is just a little bit loopy, kinda like his owner (me). Thanks for your response =D

Well Twinkle is almost a year and she is still crazy. There are days when she just jumps and bite your leg especially if it wants attention in the kitchen and we ignore her.She cries alot for food. That cat is the greediest i've had and honestly i like her.But she isnt crazy all the time, she is rude though.

We got a little kitty from the Pet Shelter. A boy and yes after a few days of getting use to us he got a little crazy. Not hissing though. Just fun. Racing through the house, jumping up on our blinds because he wants them open. So we open them of course so he can sit on the window ledge. Now he is six months old and you would sware he is a year old. He is our fat cat who lays around and sleeps alot. I have to say this is the nicest cat we have ever had. Great personality.

Oh, that's great! Nice of you to get him from the Pet Shelter =) Smokey is eating heaps so it might not be too long before he becomes a 'house cat' ;-)

True, LOL! I have had a few crazy ones over the years however they were always okay as kittens - maybe this one will be different and might be a 'normal' cat =)

I used to have a gray cat. When I saw him, he was only one week old.It was so tiny, and I always keep him in my hands, but my mom didn't alllow me. He was very clever,he can catch the mouse. There were many mice in my house, after he came and got bigger, less mice. We have three dogs, the cat can not get along well with one of them. After a year the cat left.

Hi! Thank you for your response. That's great that he could catch mice, all my other cat seems to catch are drop-tailed lizards, LOL! Pity he left because of the dogs though =(

male kittens are much naughty than female and like a boy, a kitten is naughty until he reaches his maturity stage. until then they will remain naughty and crazy as much as they can so it's much better to put them in a shelter where they can only play with their toys and other cats. if you keep them running around your house i guess after one or two months you'll be living in disaster. they like to climb on drawers and cabinets they will even bite your power cords and slippers and poop all over your house.

Nah, I've had other male cats before and, while naughty, were able to be 'trained' out of it. The last male cat I had was dominated by our female, he was extremely timid and skitish - we used to call him a freaky-cat, LOL! Even though Smokey was only 5 weeks old when I got him, he was toilet trained and eating proper cat food. So pooping everywhere isn't an issue, thank goodness =) Thanks for your response =)

I've had sweet boys and crazy girls. Boris was just the sweetest thing, all he wanted to do was hide from his crazy sister, Natasha. Rygel is 6 and Nef (female) is 8 and both of them like to play with the kittens!
