I don't believe it is possible to be devoid of emotions

I say every conscious human has some sort of emotion. I know emotions can be suppressed but not be completely devoid. I say an "emotionless" person can have no sympathy but will still have some sort of emotions like they feel a little happy or a little sad. Being scared is an emotion. Happy, sad, mad, fear, and worry are emotions regardless how big or small an impact it is. Everyone with any sort of goal whether it is staying alive or even causing yourself to die requires emotion. If I am wrong then please let me know because those are merely my hypothesis.

I have worked with children with severe autism before. If I had not come into contact with autism, then I would agree with your statement, but if you knew someone with severe autism, you'd see the empty look in their face. The complete lack of awareness of emotion at all. I used to have to say "I am angry with you", or "I am happy that you've done that" because it is only by telling them that happy is a good thing, and angry is a bad thing that they even know hoe you feel, as they cant pick it up in your voice, or body actions (this in itself is often hard for autistic people to understand). If you watch the big bang theory, and observe the way that Sheldon behaves, he plays the characteristics of autistic spectrum very well. Sadly autism is becoming more and more prevalent too.

It depends on the severity of their condition, but there have been kids I've worked with that are practically in a world of their own. Fall and gash their leg, and not even a murmour. Its heartbreaking to see kids like that. But these extreme cases are rare. You often get autistic people who will lash out because they dont know what to do, but wether or not thats an emotional response is questionable.

I seen a person with extreme autism as well. The person I seen did have emotions but lack sympathy. I say those with extreme autism do have emotions. They can be mad, sad, and happy. They may not see it with other people though.

I would have to agree with some of the other people here. It is possible for someone to lack emotions potentially, but they would probably need to have some kind of condition or brain damage. Without that, something like trauma can cause someone to become somewhat numb to emotions, as a type of survival mechanism, but I wouldn't call people in that situation as truly devoid of emotion.

I agree with you. They may have very few emotions but are not devoid of emotions. They can feel a little happy or even a little sad.

Yes,you are right everyone has emotions, even those who doesn't like to show it, i have experienced this, use to know a person who was so shocked about something that he would never show any kind of emotion, no matter what happened he would just stand there and act like a normal human being.. he never showed his happiness nor sadness never really reacted to something that's funny it could be real hard to deal with a person like that as you know persons acting like that are real sensitive in the inside..

Yes all human beings have emotions, even saints have them. There is no human being who is devoid of emotion however hard he tries to control it.He can try to suppress it but can never completely erase it from his psyche.Saints are supposed to have conquered their emotions.Yes they have but they still give way to compassion for the suffering humans and compassion is also an emotion though they personally not affected by it.

Everyone has some kind of emotions inside of them. Some come to the surface easily while others are buried deeper. I dont see how anyone can say that someone has no emotion. How could they be alive without some emotion to drive them on?
