Grandparents and grandchildren

Have you noticed how grandparents tend to be very possesive and spoil and pamper their grandchildren? What they never did for us as kids, they want to do that and more for their grandchildren. Even when we discipline the kids they intervene and stop us. How does this happen and how do you react to this?
