I dont know if this is the true name for them but it is what my mother called them when we were little. She used to toast an english muffin and after mixing the tuna with mayonnaise she'd slather that on the bread and top it with cheese nad pop it in the microwave. Oh my gosh it was so good. I used to eat these all the time when I was a kid until I stopped eating meat when I was 7. My daughter who is 6 1/2 wont eat meat she doesnt like it. My son though loves chicken and pepperoni so I've been buying different meat things for him to try. So far he hasent liked much. I am going to go to the store either tomorrow or the next day and pick up some mayonnaise, tuna fish and english muffins and make him a tuna melt. I already have the cheese so I'm all set as far as that goes.
Have you ever had a tuna melt like this before or is it called something different in your family?

I have before. I would absolutely love them. We wouldn't use mayonnaise, but instead would lather on some butter. Put on a slice of tomato, some cheese, and some tuna, and grill is on the stove. I loved those things. Where I live now, I don't have a stove, but if I get one again, I will be living on the stuff, I know!

No, never eaten anything like that! I do not eat cheese or tuna, but even though I know people that eat both, I have never heard of anyone putting them together like that before! To me, tuna is cat food!
I do not use microwaves either!

I have some of these tuna and mayonnaise spread in my fridge regularly. It also has some grated cheese mixed in. I would have it ready just in case there is no leftover food at home to bring for lunch at work the following day.
But I never tried microwaving it. Maybe I should to melt the cheese off. Wouldn't the mayonnaise turn bad?

Well you just microwave it right before you eat it. I've heard people say doing that can make the mayonnaise turn bad but I've never had a problem with it. I made my son a tuna melt yesterday for lunch. He watched me make it and was so excited saying how tasty it was going to be but then when he tried it he didnt like it at all lol. He didnt spit it out which I was surprised but he had the weirdest look on his face and told me after he swallowed it that he didnt like it.

My mom use to make tuna melts all the time for me. We use to take white bread, cheese, tuna, and some times cucumbers or tomatoes and cook it just like grilled cheese sandwiches. It was so good. Now that I'm older I really don't eat it much. I had it way to often when I was young. But when I need a quick meal during the day I will cook this up. Tuna for me though has a horrible smell so I really have to be craving it before I'll make it.

Hmm I've never had it that way. I've always eaten grilled cheese just with cheese between the bread but one time I had a grilled cheese that had a tomato in it. Ugh that was so gross. I didnt expect it to be in their. My ex used to have me make him grilled ham and cheese sandwiches but personally I have never tried one.

I like Tuna melt, but I think the way you make it is different than we do.. We use toasted french bread or any type of bread in halves and a tuna spread topped with a thin slice of cheese and sprinkled with crushed dried basil leaves :) This is really delicious specially if it's still a bit hot and well toasted :)

If they had imitation tuna then I would be willing to try eating it your way as it sounds yummy. It snowed really bad here so I couldnt make it to the store today. I cant wait to get the ingredients tomorrow to make my son a tuna melt. I really hope he likes it.

No, I've never had a tuna melt before. Though that's not surprising considering how much I dislike any fishy foods anyway.
In regards to meat, I love all kinds, even the peculiar ones that seem to put lots of people off (haggis, for a British example). I rarely eat a meal that doesn't contain at least one type of meat.

My ex was like that. I think every meal he ate was something meat based. Me I eat cereal in the morning but if he ate breakfast at all it would be corned beef hash or something like that or bacon. For lunch and dinner he always wanted meat to. I was a vegetarian so that made it hard to always have to cook something seperate for him or him complain he didnt want what we were having because he wasent a vegetarian.

I like tuna.. and when I make a tuna sandwich I do toast my bread, but I do not heat the tuna. I prefer it cold. I work in a sub shop now, and often times people want their tuna sandwiches toasted. I think it smells disgusting! I will never try eating heated tuna.. yuck!
Last week I made some tuna and left it in the fridge. The next day my kids were making lunch and asked if they could eat it. I told them they had to try it first to make sure they'd like it.. and it turns out 3 of the 4 younger kids liked it enough to make a sandwich out of it 2 days in a row. My 8 year old son did not bother to try it. My oldest wasn't home at the time so he didn't try it either.. but I think he's probably had tuna before.

I remember watching Jessica Simpson on her show along time ago eat tuna fish right from the can. I was like wow. I had no idea people did that. I've only had it as a tuna melt but I did used to make my ex regular tuna fish sandwiches where you just mix the tuna with mayonaise. I've never eaten one myself that way I dont think. If I had it would have been before I was 7 years old.

Yes, but instead of muffin, i have used those thin sliced breads, what i usually do is the same, mix tuna, mayo and a bit of pepper and cheese and put it in between the slices of bread and pop it into the toaster and tadaaa tuna sandwich

Yes, my mom used to make them for us. Tuna melts on english muffins and we would also get them at the local diners. Yum! Now I want one! I will have to pick up tuna on the way home.

Well thats awesome that my discussion got you thinking about something that you havent had for awhile. Its been many many years since I have eaten one. I havent ate meat in 20 years. Sounds like your mother made you them the same way my mother made them. I've never seen one at a resturant though.

I have never eaten a tuna melt but I love patty melts. This is made with a beef patty and grilled onions and swiss cheese on pan toasted rye bread. Delicious!
I can't quite bring myself to eat a tuna melt. Nothing with heated mayonaise sounds good to me. And cheese with tuna sounds awful, too. I eat tuna creamed sometimes over toast or rice. I love tuna salad, which is, to me, the way tuna should be eaten. I add mayo, a smal bit of mustard, boiled eggs, sweet pickle relish, onion and a dash of celery seed and salt and pepper. Served on toast if you like but usually on white or wheat bread. Yummy

Oh we have a lot of tuna in our place. We are the second largest exporter of tuna in in Asia.
