How can a person be modest and avoid being self-conceited around people?

I sometimes meet people who brag a lot and are too proud of themselves and I meet another kind who are kinda flirty with their hair and clothes and stuff like that. How can a person learn to control himself/herself so that he/she doesn't turn out to be a self-conceited person?

i think one of the reasons why people brag or seem conceited is because they want attention drawn to them. they lack self-esteem and maybe in some ways they want to be noticed all the time. if we only learn to be more humble by way of being content with what we have then we can be less cocky around people.
