I'm going to start university next year and I'm pretty excited about it already I have already decided on my major and got an OK from my parents too. But sometimes I think about what would I have done if my parents had opposed my choice. I don't really know actually. Maybe I would have just taken the major they wanted me to take What about you?? What would you have done if your parents opposed the choice of your major?? AND if you have already completed university, did your parents have any say in the major you were taking??

I'm going to university too and I'm pretty excited and nervous.. If my parents opposed about my major, I would just follow them and understand because they know best.. But they didn't opposed. they just support me.

hello, i am already free of university now. but i don't think major is important, since in the college you could do anything you want to only depending on you interests, which has nothing to do with you major. Good luck, and enjoy you time.

Major isn't important?? In my country major is really important coz that is where we are supposed to go after university. I mean making a career with the help of the major we had. Anyway yes I'll definitely have a good time. Thanks for the response.

I suppose if the parents were paying the tuition it would impact my decision. I would also realistically discuss with the parents that these are my reasons for wanting to study what I wanted. I would hope they would understand that I was an adult and would be the one studding and working towards a career that I enjoyed and not having to make me decide on a career that later I would be upset with. I am really glad your parents and you have decided on an agreement. Best of luck to you and your future studies.

When I choose the major, my parents didn't advice me any things. Now I'm feel sad about that. I wish I could have some advices about my major. I think that you should listen to your parents or your friends when they give you some advices. It will be useful for you.

I decided on my studies entirely on my own. My parents had nothing to do with it. Some of the decisions I took I regret now, but at least I don't have somebody else's decision to regret. I don't think anyone has the right to tell you what to do with your life, even if they are your parents (and they pay for your studies :P). They can/should advise you, but that's it. Nobody knows better than yourself what you want to do with your life. I think your parents understand that and decided to support your choice. You're one of the happy cases and so was I. :)

That's a good thing to do. I hope your parents agree with what you want to study because it would be so easy. Studying something you absolutely dislike is a difficult thing for me. Thanks for the response. A good day to you..

But the good thing is you're studying what you've always had an interest in. Not everyone gets a second chance. Good luck with your MBA and I hope you succeed . As for me I'm happy my parents agreed. Have a good day..

Good to hear that your parents wasn't against your choice. It is really important to take the major we wanted in college so we could enjoy and have fun with and in return this would result to a good outcome, like having a good remarks and excelling in the course. Not unlike when one just follow the major the parents wanted their children to take, sometimes it is hard to love something that is force to you, but on the other hand if one is open-minded with pretty much everything then following the parental is not a big deal. I'm already finished with my first degree, and my parents did not intervened with me while choosing the major that I took up. But I don't 100 % like the major that I took. I don't actually have a choice but to pursue it since it was the major that I was allowed to take given the examination grade I got when I took the entrance examination of my university then. And I wasn't able to shift to another major because I didn't do well in my subjects and shifting to another major requires a higher grade on particular subjects. And along the way I messed up so I wasn't able to enjoy the rest of it. But I did finished my degree just for the sake of finishing it and earned a degree. Sad isn't it?. Now, I am given another chance to study another major that I will enjoy and love to pursue as my career. And I'm graduating this April and hopefully I'm looking forward to building a stable and successful career with it. So just follow your heart and whatever makes you happy cause it is where your success lies. Take care. :)

Yes actually I totally agree with you. If I was forced to take a major I disliked, it would of definitely been a nightmare. I'm lucky my parents gave a YES and I'm glad that you got a second chance to pursue your dreams too. Don't let this chance go. My grades aren't that good too. I mean some of the scores are really good and some are low. I hope it doesn't cause any trouble. Anyway good luck to us with life then Thanks for responding. Have a good day..

It's a good thing that your parents agreed with your choice. Nowadays, parents tend to dictate what major course to take in college. Besides, they are usually the ones responsible for the payment of your tuition and other expenses. In my case, I so much wanted to take up journalism or creative writing but my parents disagreed. They wanted me to take up any Engineering course and so I ended up taking Mechanical Engineering in college. At first I was unsure if I would be happy with what I took but then I came to like it as years go by.

Congratulations. It's really an exciting thing to start the university life. You are lucky because the major you like to choose is supported by your parents. Most of us have dreams about the future and we wish to do what we are interested. So, the college life is really important for our tomorrow. I have graduated from the university for about three years. It has been a great time in my life. Back then I didn't think too much about what a major to choose because I wasn't so sure about what to do in the future. Then I chose a major which was very popular at that time. And that was supported by my parents too. In the college, I began to know what I really wanted to do and got to know my future better. Come on with your bright tomorrow. You will have a great time in the coming university life, I am sure about this.
