how controlled can we be when holding the TV remote control?

women, or even men like watching shows, and not just shows but soapy operas...
problem is, what if there's only one TV, one room, and one remote control but with different wants?
i've seen a remote control fly out of the window out of people's anger that they just didn't get to watch their fave show coz the others just couldn't get enough of their own sitcoms...
rich get more TVs and tops,no problem..
how far can you stretch your own self control just to give in to the wants of others?

I have been in the situation mentioned and it is really inconvinient for the entire family. It is unpleasant not only for the one who is not available to watch what he or she wants but even for the one who gets his or her show because when someone in the family and in the room is unhappy with something it reflects to the mood of the entire family. My mother had made a great decision to that and gad made what once was a problem a daily nice experience for the entire family providing spending some quality time together.Everyday we all together browsed the tv program and chosed one film or tv show that will be nice for all of us to watch. My parents also bought a video so if there was anyrhing else one of us really wanted to watch it was recorded and later he or she had the chance to enjoy his favourite show.During the weekends, once when my brother and I were kids and spent nights at home , my mother made different contests for all the four of us and the one with the biggest account of points decided what we all watched. It was a nice time for the family, and we became really close playing games and enjoying tv together instead of arguing and leaving someone feel neglected.

so you enjoyed your childhood well -- with your family...less the TV and more of the bonding, thanks to the TV itself. :)

In my house whoever holds onto the remote control is in charge of the television. this often causes quite a bit of conflict. sometimes it is just finding where that person hid the remote that causes the most conflict. My father-in-law is so in charge of the remote at his house that he is often found to be asleep with it in his hand.

what if someone stays at home the whole day and still doesn;t give chance to the others who came home to do the surfing?
hehe, give them their TV time, they never had much of it way back then :)

I don't often watch TVs, so i get few such problems. Most of the time, I would rather watch the shows or soapy operas in my computer. But sometimes when I get a nice program on the tv, I will try my best to keep the remote controller in my hands. There are two televisions in our home, so I seldom give in.

Hi asiamooner, When I was younger, we only had one T.V. in our living room and had this very problem. My mother's solution was to find out everyone's favorite shows, and make a schedule each week. It was difficult at first, but we all got used to it pretty quickly, being that we did not really have a choice :D Because we, the children, all had the same daily schedule, we only had a small window of T.V. time. Now that I look back, I am grateful to my mom for doing this, it actually made us want to be outside more and work our brains instead of killing it with so much nonsense. As entertaining as it is, too much really is bad for us. Good luck with your remote control blues ;).

that's one good thing, you can do more things outside because there's jhust one TV. and the sun is a real friend when it comes to these days that it's not yet your turn to be the couch potato. :)

Because i arrive earlier than my husband i can watch my favorite soap operas with gusto. When he arrives but still my soap opera hasn't ended yet, he would go out of our bedroom and watch what he likes at the sala.
When i am done with my soap opera, i would call him and give him the reign over the remote control. Usually, he keeps on flipping channels, so i just leave him to his own, and say goodnight and sleep.

yes, it is frustating when you get cynical but fun when you just stare on each other's face and just see how ridiculous you looked for not having given others the chance, or not being given the chance, hehehe...but fun :)
