Some people say that good leaders are born and there is probably some truth in that statement.I think however that most people would agree that there is more to good leadership than just being born with the qualifications. A good leader sees others as fellow humans and is sensitive to their needs, for it is not enough to simply direct people, we must also guard the trust that other people place in us,by creating a mutual bond of respept. Do you agree?

Being a leader includes a lot of personal qualities.A leader should be at first really smart to see the oportunities and grab them and to make the right decisions as a leader decides not only for himself but for others too.A leader should be fearless but also should know how to recognize the danger-both in business and in personal life.A leader has to know people's personalities since if he understands them and they know it his leadership would be much easier. It is true a leader is born but the leader should also be grown. He should respect others so that they would respect him.A leader should definitely be strong and wise. And one of the most important thing-very few people are able to have power and control and use them nicely about others and wisely and not getting themaselves overestimated.Because usually the moment a leader decides he is too great he loses.

I think a leader must be as objective as it can be. You have to balance the needs of your people and getting the job done. As a leader its not your job to make friends but its also important to respect the people you work whit. It's hard to maintain the balance because you can easily fall in one of the extremities: Either be a hard boss that is getting the job done at the cost of workers happiness or a soft one who is taken for granted. To sum up a leader is a complex figure and you definitely must have talent to be one.

I totally agree! To be a good leader, one must not only be willing and able to "take charge" when necessary but also have the temperament and attitude needed to be willing to work with others and ask for advice and actually TAKE it when necessary. A good leader knows that everyone he or she leads won't always agree with him or her or even LIKE him or her; a good leader still considers these people as equals and respects their views.
There are the other obvious qualities a good leader should possess such as knowledge and even more important in my opinion, an intellectual curiosity and willingness - no, EAGERNESS - to learn.
A good leader should not be arrogant, mean-spirited or spiteful. A good leader has to be aware that it's not all about him or her but about those he or she leads.

Yes, I do agree. In other words, a good leader must have the attitude to consider not only a single person but also the rest of the people that he is leading to. He must be able to understand the strength and weakness of each and must be also considerate without necessarily being weak. It takes more than education to become a leader.. It entails character and dignity to lead in order to be respected as well as excel.

I think one of the things to consider is for how long the leadership is needed. Certianly in an emergency a person who can recognize the goal and motivate general response toward that goal is what is needed. For leadership that goes on for an extended time, the goal can include consideration of individuals and not just the group as a whole. Examples: An airplane accident, like the landing of a commercial plane in a large river, this required the goal and the method to reach that goal. A long term goal was Germany's role in WWII Hitler's leadership gathered many different peoples together and lead them toward one goal, while he did this with very little concern for individuals he was a successful leader at that time. If a good leader is considered good because he leads then Hitler was a good leader. If a good leader must be loved to be a good leader then he failed.

Hi savypat, Thanks for putting a different slant on this. You make some points that few would think off. There could certainly be a case made for Hitler being a good leader, but since you had to agree with him, I don't think that he was. A good leader takes his work seriously and earns the love and respect of his followers because he sees them as human beings like himself, and doesn't try to deceive them. Blessings.

I believe there are seven key points to making a good leader:
1. That you 'walk the talk' and live in honesty the path that you believe is right and good for everyone around you that looks up to you for guidance.
2. You must be a good motivator and energise your team emotionally to be just the right source of information to inspire those around you to be their best at all times.
3. A good leader always conveys a confidence towards the proposed objective to inspire the best efforts for team members.
4. People look towards a good leader in times of challenge and uncertainty to provide them with a sense of security in facing fears and working through the seemingly impossible all the while remaining positive of the outcome.
5. To be a good leader you have to remain, calm, composed and steadfast to the main task at hand not matter what crises comes to challenge and see these as a chance to self reward while keeping a cool head.
6. A good leader not only sees the situation as a whole but can also break it down into manageable steps and maintain the flow of energy to get these jobs done efficiently and correctly.
7. A good leader always aims higher than they need to be, forever raising the bar to achieve amazing goals never settling for second best.
I agree with you that trust plays an important part of any team and that a godd leader takes responsibility to maintain this trust throughout himself and his team.

Hi madebyroybn, Thank you for sharing these suggestions and they are all good. I see respect for others in the group to be very important. I think that a leader has to realize that we are all human beings, children of the universe and must show respect for all. Blessings.

Hi pose,Yes, I fully agree to your points.People are often heard gossiping that so and so are great leaders for they have inherited this quality from their family history. They come to such conclusion because they do not see the hind part of the issue. When a family has a couple of politicians this is quite natural that the child would follow that.
You must have observed one very common thing that most of College professors' children adopt the same profession. The house hold milieu is responsible for this.
To be a good leader one need not necessarily has to come off a alike family. And they get recognized as good leader who pick up the political system of various nation and synthesis them to bring out the best.

What makes a good leader? Many of us might say this things a leader must be a democratic leader, Participative, Supportive, Considerate, Humanistic an etc.. But the problem is how can a person do this things? We are not perfect and we might commit mistakes sometimes. I agree that a good leader must understand and know the present situation of his people but he has to consider not only the betterment of one person but the betterment of his people.

Hi EARLZHAN, Thank you for sharing your thoughts and and I agree they make good sense. For me respect for those who placed him/her in the position must come first and foremost. People are to be shown respect, not lied to, or have things hidden from them. Blessings.

I think you are right because a good leader has to care with his people. They must be able to giving living example and not just lips service. Many leader this day they wanna to be service by its people, not service they people to create a better life.
I think this day there are not so many leader who respect by their follower and making bond with them.

when a leader can provide the needs of his constituents. when he is honest and trustworthy. when he considers himself a servant of the community, not the the person to be served. when he follows the rules and the laws of the land.

A leader in any field, whether in business, government, society and others, should realize that he assumed the position and the position is actually the trust that must be accounted for, both to members and led to the Lord. So when I managed to occupy leadership positions, whether in government, business, community, and other organizations, should not neglect the mandate as leader of serving members and the community they lead. A leader, needs to develop a servant leadership attitude, or in the term now is "servant leader".

Hi Pose: I agree with you. A person that has a lot of great abilities is not necessary a good leader. For me, a good leader is a person that listen his/ her group and helps them to face the problems that they have as a whole. A good leader knows that he/ she has to count with the work of all of the group to succeed.

I do believe too that their is truth in the statement that some people are just born leaders. Some people seem to just genetically inclined with the 'leadership gene' if there is such thing. For me a good leader is someone who acknowledges every instances that he or she fails upon. Leaders today specially political leader can't seem to accept it when they commit mistakes. It is always somebody else' fault. A good leader should be able to eat their pride. Sometimes people have a better solution or suggestions on things so a good leader are able to accept and acknowledge that.

I totally agree with you! A good leader should not only be a leader, he should also be a good member. He should know the feelings the of his members and understand them. As one said: "A good leader should have the brains to guide his members and a heart to love and understand them."
