Being a friend vs. Being a dutiful Mylotter

Would you report a friend to admin if he or she may have violated a Mylot rule?
This stems from a discussion that I have about a newbie friend of mine who happens to have a similar discussion and unfortunately have the same title that I have previously posted. I just figured out today, that when I tried using the search bar my topic didn't showed up. Couldn't blame her right?
I know as a Mylotter, it is our duty to help out when we can.
But would you be more considerate if it is a friend you are going to report to admin?
What would you do in such a situation?

I have better things to to than to tattle tale on people on this site. If they are cheating or scamming then eventually it will catch up to them and they will have their discussion deleted or get banned. I don't have time to know what "friends" are doing on here and to be honest I really don't care.

Unless someone reports no discussion or topic is deleted. So it is our duty to report but not everyone does that if the one who is a friend that violates the rules.

Allknowing you are mistaken
GAA deletes regardless of whether something is reported or not.

Allknowing....I find many violations that are not reported. I do a regular sweep of the forums looking in every nook and crevice for violations. It does not have to be reported for me to delete it, nor does reporting something guaranty it will be deleted.

Hi,
Though we can make a friendly advise that make more sensible than raising a complaint with the admin. Also, it is their (admn's) duty to find out if there is any violation of rules here. As long as they are not cared, your friendly advice can make fruitful. As the person is your fiend, you can advise the person accordingly and once they are in track, they will follow, I think.
Thank-s

I already told her about it, haven't received a response from her though.
Mylot is such a big place, to let just GAA clean this site of violations.
Must be a tough job huh?

hi sweet pea it really is not a cop out when we older ones suggest'
you newbies read the mylot guidelines and frequently asked questions and all the other information for themselves.but it really is the best way to learn about mylot and all that goes with it.remember the old game of gossip where one person starts a few lines and whispers them to the person seated next to them, and each person is supposed to repeat those lines exactly. And the results always had everyone in stitches as none of it was what was first said at all. thats also the way with over helpful other newbies who guess at the answer and give information that is absolutely incorrect. it saves time and energy to read the information first hand and get it right to start out with. many discussions are deleted because someone was given the wrong information and made discussions that broke mylot rules. I know we all want personal attention but telling someone to get the information for themselves so as to have it correctly is helping. As for reporting a friend no dont do that instead help your friend by suggesting she read all the information for herself. then if she does not understand one or two points you can explain but doing it yourself really is the best way.

Yeah, I have been in this situation before. I was the one who posted the similar discussion. I guess they didn't report me to the admin. So I think I'd really give someone a chance. But in cases, I've seen clear plagiarism, I don't hesitate to report it.

If that friend of yours did it on purpose then you could report that to admin. If it's just coincidence then you can tell your friend about it and lets others do the reporting. Repeat discussions are common in this site, when admin takes notice it will be deleted but that's not going to cause someone his account except a notice why the discussion got deleted and a few cent deduction earned from the discussion.

Whew! That is a relief. I'm just bothered that if you report someone their account can get suspended immediately. But in some cases, I think they do. We'll know if they are doing this on purpose right? If it happens again, we wouldn't think twice about reporting it to admin.

Hello sweet_pea,
Because it is your friend and it was your discussion, and it is the first time it happens, you can send a PM. A friend has received your notifications, and cannot ignore your discussions, even if they do not appear when you use the search bar. Personally I rarely report a duplicate, except if a member starts twice the same discussion or makes a complete plagiarism. If it was my discussion and a friend, I would ask this "friend" to not do it again, and I would report if it happens again. And if it was voluntarily plagiarized, believe me, it will happen again, with your discussions or with discussions started by other members. You can forgive it, but do not forget it. Just my opinion.

Thanks topffer. I was also in the same situation before. And the person called my attention about a similar discussion. I really appreciate it, because I know newbies tumble to a lot of mistakes when they started here. Well we learned from those mistakes.

Hi xienxien! Welcome to Mylot!
Thanks for your advice. I see you are new to Mylot. I hope you'll like your stay here. Just make sure dear you don't make the same mistakes newbies often commit here. And if you have questions you can always ask any of the oldies here. They will surely gladly help you.

I would warn them about the rule violation and leave it at that. Other people will report it anyway. Only situation where I report people is when they're really abusive or when they plagiarize. People who do that aren't good friends anyway.

Same here. Reported a plagiarized response and admin deleted the account.

I don't report all that much in here, but I will help those that need it and hwen I see someone violating the rules in some way, I will tell them so, and give post the link to the faq's and guidelines in my response. I think though, that when it comes to friends or those that aren't our friends, the rules apply to all of us, so if I see someone violating them, whether is a friend or not, I will tell them versus reporting them. The only time I report someone is when I see then post referral links in the discussions, or they are rude to others. I just think it is easier to just tell them what they have done wrong versus reporting them, as telling them would hold more weight than reporting them. Have a very good day, and happy mylotting.

I'm sure it will get deleted anyway...
So, I'd just be a real friend and talk to this newbie-friend of mine. On what mistake she did, and why his or her discussion will get deleted.
I think the time spent dealing with it is better spent responding to other discussions.

Thanks bounce! I already got in touch with her and she was apologetic and it was not her intent to do it. She was not aware that she needs to use the search bar to search for similar topics before starting a discussion. Anyway, what is important is that she learn from this experience.

I'll leave that happy, happy, little task for someone who will have much more enjoyment about it than I do. I think that really it is just time that can be better spent for me. In the amount of time that it takes me to report a topic that is really against the terms of service or rules, I could find another topic that is. For me, time is money, even if it is a few seconds here and a few seconds there.
Plus, its not my job to police this place. I don't get any bonuses for pointing about abuses(and I'm not suggesting that, because that will be abused all of the time). Therefore, there are people who are much more at ease with reporting people, whether they be friends or people they have never spoken to on this website. So I'll leave it to them. That's all I've got to say about that.

You got your hands full megamatt!
It is basically our choice whether we report it or not.
Some would care, some wouldn't.

For any newbie, I would tell them what the rules are. Most especially since this person is your friend, you can explain to them the consequences of such a thing to help them earn.
Have them read the FAQ so they may not make mistakes that will get their posts deleted and prevent them from earning.

Thanks rosegarden! But there are just a bunch of discussions about having newbies read the faqs before they post. Anyway, it is best to help out so mistakes like this be minimized if not totally eradicated.

I think you should suggest your friend to read the faqs and guidelines on mylot very carefully.Once she read it she can herself report her post to admin and admin people will simply delete it and they wont ban your friend from mylot as she know her mistake.

Hi Sameer! Welcome to Mylot!
Yeah, I have already sent her a message.
Somebody here read the FAQ. Nice!
