Let's say you are riding a public vehicle and your destination will take a while to reach and you feel tired, would you sleep or keep yourself awake? Me I do sleep in a public vehicle if I really feel tired but only if the one besides me doesn't look suspicious or else i will keep myself awake. How about you, do you take a nap or sleep in a public vehicle?

I don't sleep in a public vehicle I keep myself busy for something like reading or listening music and even playing games from my Iphone..I don't feel like having a nap in a public transport, I just don't feel safe at all.But I know its nice to have a quick rest while travelling otherwise with a company of a family member,perhaps a close friend, but not with myself alone.
Happy myLotting!!

Hi! You should continue that practice coz it is what people should really do especially girls like you. You should always be aware of the people around you as well as the surroundings. Keeping yourself busy will really prevent you to fall asleep. Always take good care of yourself and God bless! Happy myLotting! =)

I had experience this when I was on my way to live with my sister and the travel was like 8hrs taking a bus. I buy lots of snacks to spare the travel time, but 8hrs? I can't really make myself wide awake the whole time. Like taking a 15mins nap. I am glad that every time I am on a long travel the person next to me is very nice and I am able to make friend and made me feel comfortable to take a nap but still I didn't lose my guard. But in a case where the place been reported with many incidents like stealing or hold up, I keep myself wide awake by eating the snacks I brought.
I had this experience one time with my hubby and his sisters it was during christmas season, we were on a bus on our way to our home at night and the passengers left were us(4persons) and a couple and another 4 all-male group. The couple were 2 seats away from us and both of them were in a deep sleep that they didn't woke up while those 4 male robbing them off. It was my hubby's sister who saw it and warned us to transfer seat near them. And the conductor has no care at all, and we couldn't do anything coz they're in a group and didn't know if they're armed with weapons. Poor couple!

I never sleep in a public vehicle because I am afraid of steeling my things from the vehicle and I can't sleep in the noise. Sleeping in a public vehicle is not comfortable too. And If you sleep in the vehicle you will give your head a support and then you will get germs from It.

Haha, yeah, those things you mentioned are the ones that will prevent someone to take a sleep in a public vehicle. Thank you for sharing. =)

When I travel by train or bus and I know there will be a long time before I reach my destination I don't mind trying to get some sleep. But it is kind of hard for me to sleep in those conditions since it usually isn't quiet + it can be bumpy.

Yeah, it's often noisy in public vehicles and sometimes it's really hard to take a nap. But sometimes we can't help not to take a nap if we feel really tired. Thank you for your response.

Hahahaha!! I do the same! I will only sleep if I feel that the one beside me is an okay person.. though I do hug my bag just in case, and I am a light sleeper so that's okay for me. If the one beside me is a guy, I would think twice about sleeping.. I had experience having a guy put his hand on my thighs while on the bus (maniac alert!) and one of my friends who takes the bus everyday had experienced that when she woke up the guy beside her was already groping her b@@bs!!! After that I try to keep awake if the guy beside me looks like someone who will do something bad to me. LOL!

Yeah, I just hate the fact that I have to always be looking and checking my seatmate if he is doing something fishy... I just wish that there are no maniac guys in the world.

Oh you girls should really be careful on riding a public vehicle, and mostly never sleep especially if the one besides you is a guy, plus if the dress you are wearing is a mini or a revealing one. It will attract abusive people to do negative things to you, just like what you and your friend's have experienced. I hope your friend also learned her lesson. Well, just always be extra careful when riding a public vehicles or going to public places. It's better to be safe than sorry. Thank you for your response.

when i'm riding in a public vehicle, i make sure that i am wide awake, alert for whatever may happen especially when my trip will take me long hours before i reached my destination...my mind was always thinking what if someone grab my purse, or someone announce a holdap, or what if the bus i'm riding met an accident. i made myself alert so that i can make myself and my companion on a safe side..

Good thing that you can really keep yourself awake. Yeah, thinking of the possible happenings will avoid you to take a sleep. That's a good practice of yours. Thank you for your response.

Yes, i also don't want hot weather. Wind coming in from outside is fine with me as well as long as it's not too strong where it will ruin your hair. Lol. Yeah we better keep ourself safe from being robbed. Thank you for your response.

Same goes for me. I use to sleep on the bus or jeep(public utility vehicle) when I am on my way home from work. One time I was awaken to find myself beyond my destination. In a sleepy state of mind I have to walk a few kilometers back home. There was one episode a few years ago when I felt something was terribly wrong when I had close my eyes for a few minutes. The hairs on the my nape stood out only to find out that I'm nearly the victim of a modus operandi when two guys would try to use their back packs to cover the victim's bag with their big backpack thereby steal the contents of the bag into theirs. Gladly enough I woke up just in time to see those two guys going down the vehicle as if nothing was wrong. It is usually good to cover your bag with your arms as if embracing it to avoid your valuables from being steal.

I can say that you are really an experienced traveler, since you have already experienced a lot. I was glad that you stayed safe despite of those scary incidents. It's good that you were not been the chosen victim. Well yeah, we should really take good care of our belongings, handle it very well and always be aware of what's happening around you. In the incident that you missed your destination and you have to walk few kilometers back home, i'm glad that those streets were safe. If not, it's better to ride back again. Thank you for sharing.

Well, I am traveling 5 hours a day to get to work. So that means I need to be on the way by 6 in the morning unless I see myself getting caught in traffic. So, I usually sleep or take a nap in a public vehicle. I am really not bothered about my seatmate if he is going to do something foolish as taking my purse from my bag. You see I often travel with working people who are also much concerned at getting a nap while traveling.

Wow, 5 hours everyday, that was a long travelling time. And you will definitely fall asleep since you're like being cradled for 5 hours. Well the good thing is you are already getting familiar with the passengers coz for sure some of them is being your normal seatmates. I can see that it's quite a safe trip but still we should not be too complacent and still be careful and cautious. Thank you for your response.

It wouldn't be that long when we'll move to our new home which is just an hour away from where I work. I usually hug my bag with me and I am not really a deep sleeper. I don't know I just get awake easily when something is just not right. I remember an instance when a burglar was attempting to break in our house. And we were incidentally sleeping on our living room with the windows open. I just wake up in the middle of the night and saw him at the window with this little flashlight scanning the house. He seemed to figure out I have awakened and started to scamper away. It seems my guardian angel is awake 24/7.

haha,no matter what i am tired,i can keep awake,on the one hand,i worry about sleeping past my stop,on the other hand, i'm afraid of encountering a thief.
Or when you sit quietly in meditation and feel your mind letting go...surrendering into the space between your thoughts...

i'm not into public transportation, but sometimes when i do ride in a public transport, i'm not sleeping i just like to see the roadside and watch the sceneries. i'm also afraid with the taught that when your on a public vehicle you let the driver hold your life for awhile, so if ever there's an accident i wanted my eyes open to give myself a chance to save myself or something, unlike if i'm sleeping and we encounter an accident my life is over before i knew it hehe :)

You'd have a better chance of surviving asleep. You would be all loose and would therefor have fewer injuries. Drunks can be in horrible accidents and not get hurt due to being relaxed.

That sounds dangerous Harold and i do not think it is advisable even if you are in car, since if you are in a car you need to keep the windows open so as to avoid suffocation inside. and if it is open you are prone to people who might abuse you or do something bad...so that will still be so scary harold.
@Harold_ks (1673)
•

Yes jazel you are right, in closed windows car, the danger of falling asleep is suffocation while in public vehicle, it's the people around you. So we should really avoid taking a sleep while riding a vehicle. Thank you for your response.

No and I wold be careful if I were you because the criminals keep a watch on those that do and you do not want to be pick pocketed and or hurt some way.

Oh yeah, especially nowadays, the number of bad people and crimes are getting higher and they are mostly targeting those ones who are not alert such as those who are sleeping. We should really be careful. Thank you for your response.

It depends on the kind of vehicle and trip.
In our place, for you to get to Manila ( a far away city where it is the center of business) it will take you 12 hours.We usually ride those big airconditioned bus that could carry 30 plus persons in a trip and it is an overnight trip. W we would sleep all the way, until we reach our destination, because the individual seats could be made to recline so you could sleep.
I for myself, can't sleep well. I am on guard of my bag. But if my husband is with me, it's okay to sleep, but still , i really can't sleep on the bus.

Wow, that was a very long travel, you must really came from a far away place. It's hard not to sleep on that situation where everybody else is sleeping. Maybe if you are alone, it's better to choose where to sit and pick a seat where a girl will be besides you. And yes, you should take good care of your belongings as well. And if you feel uncomfortable, it's really better not to sleep. Thank you for your response.

I wouldn't sleep at all because I can't trust strangers around me, who knows what could happen to me if I sleep. I would do anything to keep me awake like drink a whole bunch of coffee and a whole bunch of soda and everything. I won't even close for a second.
@Harold_ks (1673)

Yes, we should really not trust strangers. Good thing that you are really doing things to prevent you to fall asleep. Keep up that good practice of yours. Thank you for your response.

In most cases, i couldn't sleep. i think watching the view outside is more interesting than taking a nap. But if my destination is a place where i have travelled many times, i think this trip is boring so maybe i could take a snap. but Taking a snap in public vehicle alone is not a good habit.First, it's not good for you health. Second, it's not safe.
@Harold_ks (1673)

Yeah, sleeping in public vehicle is not safe and not a healthy habit that's why we should keep ourself busy to avoid getting asleep. Thank you for your response.

sometimes, when i am really tired and the destination is the last station of the public vehicle, i will take a nap in the vehicle. however, i prefer reading a book on my cellphone or contact others via my cellphone.

Yeah that is the tendency when we are tired and having a long travel, that's why we should avoid it by keeping ourself busy by doing doing things such as what you mentioned, reading a book or communicating to someone via cellphone. Thank you for your response.
