Prices of properties have gone up everywhere. Rent for a two bedroom apartment in my place won't cost that much. Maybe with that kind of money you are paying for your rent you would be able to rent a bungalow in my country. I mean when you convert that amount into our currency. The cost of living in my country is not too high compared to first world countries.

Here in IL is about as expensive if not more. Although it does depend on the areas you live. Whichever place you decide would be best, do take note that the area is of importance.
Most place here you can find way cheaper but then the areas are dangerous. You may want to search within the same area to see if perhaps with the economy drop some owners will negotiate rental rates. I know some here have the same.

I don't have any answers for you but I just have to comment on the rent you pay. I can't believe how much rent is in other places. I'm in a small town in Texas and I pay pnly $425 monthly for a two bedroom house. I know rent is somewhat higher in the larger cities around here but I just can't imagine having to pay that much for rent. Are there not any small houses to rent that might be cheaper? I have always thought it cheaper to rent a house than an apartment. Also, I think in renting a house you would have better luck being able to have your dogs, also. And with the added luxury of a yard.
Good luck to you, I really hope you can find what you are looking for. I know it's miserable liveing somewhere that is not to your liking.
