Is success in the eye of the beholder?

What is success? Are you or am I successful? I think alot of people lose sight of their goals. Life does its thing and before you know it you are stuck in a dead-end job doing tasks for other people. Is this what you had in mind?
I think the true way to be successful is to be true to yourself. Do what what YOU want to do. Im sure alot of people will not agree with my next statement...but I suppose its the different people that makes the world go round. I feel that to a certain degree capitalism has failed us. Have we as a society put too much emphasis on money and material wealth? I know I am guilty of this. How much of what we have do we REALLY need? Is it necessary for someone to earn millions and or billions each year whilst the rest of the world lives in poverty. If I was tempted in earning millions a year, would I take it? Now I know the world is an expensive place to live, not to mention to raise a family. But surely there is a line. A line where I can live content and happy? What if instead of taking a substantial raise I only took a fraction of that raise and asked for the rest to be split up. What happened to sharing? I live in South Africa and I see and hear stories all the time of people unable to maintain their standard of living.
Humans are by nature ambitious. Unfortunately most of the time that ambition turns to greed. But when is enough enough? When will I be successful? I urge people to do what they love. It is often harder to do the things you love. But if I can lead by example and hopefully open another mind and they start leading by example, then perhaps more people will follow. If you want to be rich and famous, ask yourself, when is enough enough? What then? I can assure you, the world will be the same, but are you happy?
If you are doing what you enjoy doing and you do it to the best of your ability and you have people who feel you are doing a good job, then I say you ARE successful! :)

I love your last sentence, it really touched my heart. yes, you are right when you say, one is successful if he's doing the thing he loves doing, he has people loving his works, and you're doing your best with it. I believe all of these makes you a successful person, I bet?
