Silver Dental Fillings

One of the most trusted dental filling materials is dental amalgam (otherwise known as silver fillings). There has been concern in the general public over the past 20 years or so that these fillings should be avoided due to their mercury content. While mercury makes up a crucial ingredient in these fillings (along with tin, silver, zinc and copper), the concern is that the mercury can affect your overall health. In reality, there has been no peer-reviewed scientific study to back up these claims. In fact, with the exception of their non-cosmetic color, these fillings have a greater longevity than their tooth-colored composite resin counterparts! As a dentist, I would like to know what the people in the mylot community think about silver amalgam fillings. Many of you will agree that you've had these fillings in our mouth for years and years, and they have held up very well! Others may be on the side of the anti-amalgam crowd who claim that despite the lack of scientific evidence, the mercury is harmful to you. Check my blog XanderDDS.blogspot.com, where I discuss silver fillings in more depth. As always, keep your teeth clean! Brush and floss!

My thoughts- There isn't any scientific evidence because they don't fund any research into it; and if anyone speaks out against them- they discredit the out-speaker, making them lose their job. Same thing happened to a Doctor who was researching the links between vaccines and autism(among other problems).
"Make sure to only eat one serving on tuna a week, because of the mercury content- but hey, here's some we'll just shove in your teeth so you'll get your daily dose for the rest of your life".
I've noticed a lot of medical related things have mercury in them, vaccines and fillings in particular. Sodium fluoride in water is another problem(it's a by-product of pot ash production you know....) It is like they scare us into getting these things.
As to why then the mercury... They want people to be sick, they want people to be stupid- that way, THEY make the money and thus have the control. They profit from it, so they suppress the truth, to keep profiting.

Hi. XanderDDs. This is all new to me. I have to get two fillings this month at the dentist. I don't want to, but I have to. My teeth and gum are healthy. I have had fillings in my mouth for years. And it has never given me a problem, that I know about. Tell me, if silver fillings have been a concern for over the past 20 years, then how come dentist's are still applying this coating on people's mouths? Even to children as well. I will have a look at your blog. Thanks for informing us of this. This is a surprise, I must say.

Thank you for the comment! Because there is mercury in silver fillings, there has been concern for many years that this mercury may affect a person receiving this type of dental restoration. Elvis Preseley's daughter said in the 1990's that she was having mental distress that she believed was caused from her silver fillings. There was no basis for this claim, but since she is famous, people listened to her. In reality, there is absolutely no peer-reviewed, scientific evidence that suggests these fillings are dangerous. At this time, if I were to have a filling on a back-tooth in my mouth, my personal preference would be to have a silver-filling instead of a composite-resin (tooth colored) filling. Composite-resin fillings are very effective, however the silver fillings are known to have greater longevity. Carefully consider the options that your dentist gives you for your upcoming fillings, and make sure to ask questions so that you are comfortable with the procedure. Thanks again, and I wish you good dental health!
