"I've been there before. I've seen this before." --Déjà vu--Does it happen to U?

We all have experienced this in our life.
Steadman's Medical Dictionary explains it as:
The mental impression that a new experience (e.g., a scene, sight, sound, or action) has happened before; a common phenomenon in normal persons that may occur more frequently or continuously in certain emotional or organic disorders.
Do you have this feeling of Dja vu? Share your experience.
I had Deja vu today and many other days, but why?
Why it is a common phenomenon? It is just impossible that we have seen those same things/scene/sight before. What makes it possible then?
Is it recall of memory by brain?
Is Deja vu is a brief physic ability to know all?

Hello Nishant5n,
I've been here before.
I experienced Déjà vu many times and, believe me or not, I like the sensation.
Even if we liked to think this is some sort of special ability to see the world from another dimension, it is not.
Déjà vu is an anomaly of the brain. I am not a phisician to be able to explain it exactly, but, as far as I remember, it is some kind of overlap between the neurological systems responsible for short-term memory and those responsible for long-term memory.
Whenever I experience this, I say to myself: here comes another short-circuit in my brains.

oh dear... a miscommunication that always happens with me
The was used to show the effect of the short effect and not the literal meaning of woot... I think I should put some restraint on using these emoticons... at times I do use the wrong ones.
I did find that "Short Circuit" funny and that is why I posted the response...
Sorry to get a miscommunication here especially with on of my great friends... Hope you would not mind

Doesn't it sound well to you? I find if funny.
"It is something like a partitioned hard disk with Windows on one and Linux on another... and no connection in between... at times (rare occasions) you get to see the other segment of the disk "
This is exactly what happens, only that our brain should provide us information from both short-time memory and long time memory in the same time and we should be aware what comes from long time memory and what is a recent event from our memory. But when this short-circuit happens, we don't really know which information comes from which part of our memory.

I feel it. Psychic ability? I dont think so. I belive we are all made from chemicals. Some bondings are inevitable. They will come in same sequences. Therefore, when we get a longer sequence we realize something like that will happen. Other than that, it is rubbish.

Another crazy thought from obviously my brain (where else) -
I at times believe that we are all inside a Computer Program - something like variables which are predefined with what to do and what not. Though we have our boundaries and scopes, at times we cross those boundaries (an unintentional error on the part of the coder) and this is when we find ourselves in such instances.
Ok, before you pass out narendra, I have another one here (kindly bear with me as I have finally got a chance to put down almost all I think on this as you seem to be interactive and I expect some discussions) -
At other times, I believe that we are all in a dream of another person... playing our part as per what goes on in the dreamer's mind (This one is surely not related here but I am still thinking on how to get it related)

Hi Vandana,
Sometimes, I am in a conversation with my friend and suddenly realize that this particular friend of mine has said this particular sentence to me and I replied this and he gave back me a unique reply. I used to go ahead and give him the very same reply which I have thought of, and he also gave me that very same unique reply in return. What is this? I really don't think that it has to do with reincarnation as I think it is impossible to be in the very same condition in the next birth with the very same friend?
It can be a psychic ability, but of what kind? Does it show future? or it shows past?

Well I don't think I have experienced this. However, I know people who feel that they have. It does seem like quite the surreal experience. Then again, that could be just another quirk of the human mind, which has a lot of interesting little tricks and twists to it to say the very least. I don't think its all too common but it is not uncommon either.
Still I think that I would be creeped out just a little bit. Just a tiny bit, as the fact that relieving things that have happened, are quite frankly more than enough the first time. As it happens multiple times, it can really make us wonder. Still it is an interesting thing to think about and to look at a little further. Who knows what the mind can process.

It is not very uncommon phenomenon. There are people who experience it almost every other day. I have also experience it a lot and have always wondered what is the reason behind it. Why it happens? Does it indicates something? You are very correct that mind has great potentials.

Hi nishant
I am not sure what the science has to say but I believe that this is the work of the rebirths involved here (if nothing much from this life). I might have emotional disorders (though never got tested medically coz never found a good consultant ) that lead me to see these things.
As medical science too accepts, Humans use a very small portion of the brain. What about the rest? Not many use this "other part" consciously. But I believe that this is the store house of all the incidents from your earlier lives... something like a partitioned hard disk with Windows on one and Linux on another... and no connection in between... at times (rare occasions) you get to see the other segment of the disk and many a times not (quite a silly explanation, I know, but this is how I understand it better)

Hi Sid,
Your example is very good, and I got it. Means the things we see in present life and consider them as we have seen before, are due to the past impression of previous births.
If these things are related with previous birth and its memories, does it means that we were in the very same situation or place in our previous birth?

I believe in a sense Yes. may be we were in that kind of situation or we were trying to help or even force anyone into such a situation - but we were related with such a situation.
If you think about this - many a times when you meet(or even see) a person for the very first time in your life - at times you immediately form an opinion about him or her - Hmmm he is so very familiar or he seems to be so good or even oh he looks like a thief - but hey you are seeing this person for the very first time... Again something from the past lives... maybe in some he was good to you or you were kind to him or he was bad to you or you had made him suffer...
If I remember right, Modern science says this is the effect of the waves (some body heat waves or something) that send these vibes out but I am not sure and tend to disagree - The first time you made a response to my discussion, I felt so very close to you... Havent seen you or met you or even had almost zero info about you then

Thesids... there was an Australian study on generations of rats. So the genetic composition of rats was observed for all their variations. There were distinctly identifiable patterns of variations when related to the famine and availability of good food just like the tree trunk has a lot to tell about each year that has gone by. And these mutations were passed on to the next generations. Our rebirth - is undeniable because matter can neither be created nor destroyed. The chemicals that make us if they land in the same sequence in another person, then in all probability, the person would be able to recall some of those things of past. There was a study on water holding some of such data as well, but it was disproved. I am not sure it was all that wrong. May be science needs to advance some more. As to future... I do think that we can only bond in specific ways, and that our brain moves at a certain speed. So if the string of sequences is established, then given the brain's speed we will feel we've been there and done that. The string theory that you'd mentioned in my box, is it already suggested by somebody smart? So sad. I wanted to be the first one to come up with it.

Hi Sid,
Because he is one of my fast friends since 1994 and is like my family member. So he said that and so I replied that. He lives near my house, and we spend good time together.

as for my own belief and opinion, deja vu is a sign that reincarnation is real, the things pop up your mind like ive been here before or ive seen this before even though all your lifetime you haven't know that place or things or people, it explains that in your past lifetime you encounter those things....

Means those who see Deja vu, there is great probability that they were in the very same place during their previous birth? It is explained by reincarnation, how you learned that? Can you give some links or examples?
