Do you have a duplicate of your car key?

I can say that it is really important to have a duplicate or duplicates of your car key and in my case I have to bring two keys with me, since I already experienced forgetting the key inside the car twice. The first time it happened, I have needed to go back home to get the duplicate, which happened to be way far from where my car located. The second time, I have searched someone who knew how to open a locked car. It gave me an idea that a wire can be used to open it since that is what he used to do. But from those experiences, I now always bring two keys with me. I now always have a spare key on my wallet. =) How about you, do you have a duplicate of your car key?

Hi Harold. Just imagine what would happen if you forgot your wallet in your car(with the duplicate key) and lost the other key?. I do know people like that you know? However careful they try to be, they keep forgetting things or loosing them. That is why my husband has one set of keys and I have one. Or I would give one set to my parents for safe keeping. So that even if I lost one, I know that the other would be safe. But I do not do the mistake of having both the keys with me at the same time. Don't know when your luck might run out.

Thinking of the worst possible happening can really makes you feel exhausted and hopeless. But in those incident, we should feel calm, and think that every problem has a solution. We are learning from our mistake and that is what make us a better person. Yeah, having several duplicates is a must. Me too, I have also given my mom a duplicate, aside from the duplicate that I have in me. It's good to be preventive. Thank you for your response.

Actually I was referring to my brother in law who is a hopeless case. He would always misplace things and keys are frequent. Oh, he makes my sister run from her office to her house just so she can get the spare keys to him. So now my parents have one set of keys so that whenever he locks the keys inside the house(it has an automatic lock) or looses them, he knows he can come here and get them. I don't think negative. Am just cautious knowing about my husband. He keeps forgetting things too.

hi harold I do not drive but when my hubby was alive he had du plicates of his carkeys and we had duplicates of the housekeys made too. here all i h ave is one key to my room. lol but when we had our own apartment my son and I found it best to have duplicates of our house keys. it saved us so much trouble and was not all theat expensive either.we were last in a gated apt. complex so had mailbox keys, front door keys and keys to the pedestrian gate too. so again we had duplicates made. saved a lot of grief.

I have one but I leave it at home with my mom, for emergency purposes. I keep the one with me at all times so when I'm not home, she uses her car key for my car. I once tried to have it duplicated so that I have another key which I can give to my brother since he sometimes uses the car. Sadly that key doesn't work for the car, it can open the door but it cannot start the car. It turned out that it's a protective mechanism for the car. It can only be turned on by the issued key.

Hi, My car has 2 sets of car keys and it is good at least to have a set of car key standby for emergency used. Talking about car keys, I was get shocked one day when my son locked all the car doors and I left the car key and main door key inside my car. Lucky my father-in-law was at home and another set of car key is actually with my husband. No choice,my father -in-law helped me to pick up the car key from my husband and given it to me. I was so shocked and anxious what to do when I noticed that the car doors were all locked. From that time onwards, everytime before I get off from my car, I will remind my son, never lock the car doors again.

I like to to take risks and I like the whole crazy. I am crazy. But I do not like to to take risks - can't get in my car Terribly already imagine that you have lost or broken car keys, no get in your car, and like an idiot to stand on its. It can also get in trouble with police :D Of course, that I have a duplicate key machines.

Yeah, it's really a terrible experience and how i wished it didn't happened. But still, we learn from our mistake and we prevent it to happen the next time around. Having a personal key duplication machine is really useful. Lol! Thank you for your response.

I have always kept a duplicate key to my car. It is usually supplied when I buy a car and I think it is most important to have one. It is particularly useful when I put the car in for repair and service testing etc. as I dont have to separarate my others keys from the keyring which can be a bit of a problem because I don't have long enough fingernails! _Derek

i guess the best thing to do is have triplicates and not only duplicates. you made it right, have one copy of the key in your wallet. leave the other copy of it in the house. i also have duplicate key to make it safe.

I could never get by with having just one car key. i would most definitely have to have a copy. I don't keep duplicates on the same key ring either. i usually put the extra key is a safe place. You jnever know when you will forget where you laid your keys.

I always carry a spare now. I didn't used to. It was one of those things I just never got around to. One time I locked my keys in the car, and a friend of mine had to go to my house to get the spare. It was just a plastic replicia, but since then I have gotten one made. Now I don't take it out of my purse, and I still have the plastic one.

I have a duplicate key, and a duplicate key with the remote device as well. My husband carries the duplicate remote, and I have the duplicate key by itself on a different key ring than I keep the main car keys. Why do I do this? Because one day, while juggling all of the things in my hands in the elevator on the way home from work, I dropped my set of car keys down the shaft when the doors opened. . .. I had to wait for over an hour for my husband to arrive with the extra set of keys. . .. Live and learn, right?
