I think that you are quite right. I think that all people should have a lot of pride for the country that they live in. However, I also think in saying that, we shouldn't feel like it is acceptible to hate people that are from a country that is not our own. I was brought up in a family that had a lot of members that had served in the armed forces and therefore our family is very patriotic. However, I never once heard anyone in my family complain about an entire group of people from another country.

hi doctordidi I love my country and try not to hate any
pther country but when others even here start bashing my America
I am not going to join them. odd that some who do this are in countries where we have been the first to send money and aid when they had disasters and needed help. So how come peopple bash my rcountry that been given food, medicines and all sorts of other help to their homeland in a disaster?.I am an American born and bred and love my country, right or wrong,it is my homeland.

Patriotism wouldn't be patriotism if it was associated with any sort of hatred for another country. It is pride in their ranks that makes them patriotic. A stream lined way of looking at their country and what it has to offer. No hatred should be involved. To have devoted love, support, and defense of one's country doesn't really enter in to any hatred for another country. But it does just mean that one has national loyalty for their country.

I think it is a great thing if it improves the conditions in the country. Otherwise, it is just a show - to give an image. For example if I say we Indians should bring down the population, I am a patriot by my definition. If I say all Indians are great and there cant be any idiots amongst us, my statement would have nothing to do with patriotism. It is just inability to accept the truth.

I don't know. I have only heard it used as loyality to a cause, group or country. I have never heard it exclude emotion toward other causes or countries.

I agree. To love something and be loyal to it you don't have to hate something else. But I also believe to truly hate something or someone you had to of once truly or cared for or love it. So in my eyes it's impossible for me to hate another country. America isn't the most wonderful it's self. We all have our flaws, just like people.

Why isn't it a great virtue if it spawns hatred for another country in my country patriotism raised up to fight against another country who we hated after they invaded our country and managed to achieve a little freedom again so isn't patriotism even if it's shown via hatred of another country also a great virtue in any human .
