I noticed that my son is very interested in the doggie. He started noticing hunter dog(our dog's name) is around when he turned 2 months and started watching hunterboy's movement as well. Last week, I played ball with hunterboy, it got my son giggled when he jumps and retreived, I thought it was very funny. The other time, when hunterboy yawned in front of him, he laughed as well, I guess he thought it is like us when we make funny face to him hehe
I think they can't wait to play with each other, I just need to be careful about it seeing hunterboy is a big doggie, he doesn't know how big he is and might carelessly hurt him in the play time.
I think it is good to have dogs in the family, when the children is used to the dog at home so they won't be scared of dogs when they get bigger.
Do you have a dog in your household?
How do they get along with your children?
This is the picture of them, he was learning to sit and hunterboy wants to be involved

Ive actually heard a study that says when kids grow up around pets that they tend to be not allergic to them. I grew up with pets and so did my kids. Its good for them to learn to be around pets. Pets can be such a rewarding experience. Most pets that are around kids seem to know to be careful around little ones. Even protective. The cats i presently have are not good around kids. Because i dont have kids in the house now. I have to watch them when the grandkids come over. My middle grandson is very loud and my cats really dont like that. It really surprized me when they got a cat that tolerated all the kids did to him. I think if i was their cat i would have just scratched them and ran to hide from them.

Ive used to know people like that too. The husband would say he would kill my cat if their kids got scratched. That was fro sure a over reaction. When ever they would call and say they were coming to visit. I would put my cats in he bedroom, move antique furniture in there and make popcorn. I'd move the anttiques because these kids were very wild and climbed on everything. The parents said little to stop them. After awhile they wanted to know why i asked if the kids were coming. I think they took offecne to my asking. I was asking mainly to put the cats out of the way and to make popcorn for the kids. Anyway they stopped visiting with me now. I havent seen them for over a year. But its all good.

My sister-in-law over reacted when our dog wants to sniff her daughter and got mad and stuff so they don't liek to come visit at our home. I think it would make the kid scared of the dog. And they don't like us to bring our dog to their house eitrher because she thinks our dog will pick up her daughter's toy and pee on the florr which that was just puppy thing, he is a full grown dog now.

I have heard about that as well. Some people gets over reacted when dogs or cats get close to their children, I think that is not good for the kid in the future.

I have fed a dog for eight years. It is very ugly but my five years old granddaughter likes it very much.Perhaps it is their natural instincts for children to like the little animals. However the dog like my granddaughter too.For me,It is a knotty problem because I hope the dog far away from my granddaughter. It is said that the dogs take along a lot of germs.

Don't worry so much, just keep the house and the pet clean will be fine, that way it builds up their immune system better.

I have always had dogs, and my daughters were around them from the time they were born. So they grew up learning how to treat the dogs and how to take care of them as the girls got older and could help with that. My 3 yr old granddaughter loves coming here and playing with my dogs now. I now have my oldest daughter's two dogs, not because they didn't get along with her new baby, but he is allergic to them, they have long hair. We are hoping that he will out grow it and she can take them back, but for now its just wait and see. I have had everything from dobermans , when my oldest was a baby, to basset hound, to terriers, and they all got along well with my children. My family had dogs as far back as I can remember, so I grew up with them also.

hello ivy,
My kids loves dog so much.
We have 2 female dogs at home and whenever one female dog get's pregnant,my kids are too excited to wait for the puppies.
The last time our female dog gave birth,my 2 sons assisted our dog and even cooked food for the newly mom dog and made a makeshift bed for the puppies.(i was at work during that time)
So,when i arrived home,i saw that the new mom (dog) is fine and the puppies are well taken care also
That's how my kids loves dogs a lot.
Have a great day

Hi,
I do not have any pet at home and frankly speaking,
I am not a pet lover, For sure I won't have any pets to keep
at home.
But I can sense that my son love pets, everytime when he
saw some stray cats around the house, he will ask the cats to
come over and try to chase around with the cats.

If you let them get along with the dog when they are little, they won't get scared with the animals when they get big, we just need to keep any eye on the animals, rathrer not let them alone together.

It looks like you have a lab or lab mix there. They are wonderful with children. Great at being easy. I think they will be fine together. I have two little girls and two labs. We have had our oldest smokey for 10 years the same as my oldest daughter. If he is still a young dog he will get used to the baby fast. It's like if you put a puppy around him he probably wouldn't hurt it. He would almost protect it. That have a sense about babies. And by the way such a cute pic!!
