The pain of the abscess was awful, so i went to the drs and saw a locum dr and i will say she was really nice. She asked me why i had left it until it got to the size it was and i explained to her that i was living in the hope that it would go away.Well she wanted me to go to the hospital to have it drained and i told her that i had caught mrsa from there the last time they went near my glands, s there was no way i was going there. She said that she would sort it, but pricking it with a needle was not the answer as it needed cutting to try to get the whole amount out and drained.I had it cut with a knife and yes it was painful and i needed 8 strip stitches, but i was pleased that they used strip stitches rather than having it packed every day. That was yesterday i had it done, well tonight the water proof covering over the stitches came off along with the strip stitches, oops i have to see the nurse tomorrow to see how the cut is doing and to have stitches removed.I have covered it over, or should i say my husband did as it is in my groin where they cut, lets hope the sterile dressing holds.

Living in the hope of it going away on its own? IT's not possible at all. It will only stay and one is lucky enough not to let it grow any bigger. IT's the same case for blisters, whenever i get them, i will burst them the moment i know they are ripe for the piercing. It can be painful but it's worth the pain. In your case, i have to say u can tolerate pain very well. Hopefully u will be fine tomorrow.

@jugsjugs it is always best to seek out doctors.. bursting some of them can also cause it to spread more if it is a type of infection you do not know about like cellulitis or something... you do not want to burst those kinds it will spread faster...

In the past i have burst a abscess and the puss went inwards not out and that caused me loads of problems one was blood poisioning, they also had to operate in the hospital, as well as remove my glands from both armpits.Lets hope now that they have drained it, it will not reoccure so soon.

I avoid doctors and hospitals as much as possible and I can see why you had this done AWAY from the hospital. Your immune system is vulnerable any way. I am glad this doctor was nice and helped you out without you having to go to the hospital.

The dr was really nice, especially when i told her i did not want to go to the hospital. She has given me antibiotics as well, lets hope it do not come back again.Even the nurses in the drs were really nice, as they were the ones that in the past had to dress my wounds from the abscesses, as well as the wound from the mrsa. The nurse who dressed it said that she had given the dr aneastic spray, but that did not do anything,as it only works on the surface, the nurses said i had a high pain barrier, as anyone else would have opted for a local as in needle or be given a general. They checked my bp and they said that they had to leave me laying on the bed until it went down as i was rather flushed, i cant think why, lol.I do not really want to end up going in hospital to have these glands removed, but at the end of the day it will come to that, as all the draining is doing is bideing its time.

Those abscesses can be very painful. I think it gets painful as the pressure builds up and unless you drain them the pus has no where to go.Having it in the groin is a difficult place to heal, but keep the dressing up keep it clean as much as you can. Cheers Sue

I had been sleeping with a pillow in my knees as the pressure was getting soo painful.I have in the past tried to put a hole in the abscess to get rid of it,lol, but if you try to nip them to get the yuk out, you end up pushing all that yuk into your body that can cause more problems like blood poisioning. The dr told me that before she was a dr she did surgical in the hospital, she did say that one of the reasons to why i may have been feeling ill, could have been due to that, rather tan all te pills that i was on.

Oh, that sounds painful, I'll say a prayer for you. At least you had the strip stitches those are a little easier to deal with. One time I had a couple incisions in my groin area and they put staples in, you talk about painful, it was hard to sit up straight in a chair without being in so much pain from the staples rubbing against my skin. I'll never want to do that again. I hope you heal up soon, and won't have to put up with it any longer...

I am prone to infection, so i am really careful, as for the pain, well it they have told me that i am bound to get more abscesses, due to my glands having a problem.I do not really want to get an infection in the cut that they have made, neither do i want to worry about any more abscesses while i am away for a break with my family.

I am getting fed up of all the problems that my glands are causing.I had my glands under my arm pits removed as they caused me to have abscesses continuously. They did say that i would have more problems with other glands and that would either be my anal glands or groin glands, so in one way i am thankful that it is my groin and nowhere else.It is the worst place to try to dress as the underwear also hurts to wear,lol.Thanks.

Have they ever found a cause for these? Have they ever checked to make sure you are not Diabetic or these are caused from some other issue? I am Diabetic and have had to deal with things like this from time to time, but very cautious now to make sure I notify a doctor is something is going awry. I hope by now things are better for you, but you might need to see a Doctor to find out and get advice to keep this from happening.

Yet again?!?! HOw many abscess do u have? Why does it keep appearing or keep coming back? Is there not cure for it? I do feel the pain for u, because u have to keep going thru the process of having it cut. U are lucky to have a nice doctor whom took great care of u during your visit there.. haha =D It's about time u start to see her more often than going to the hospital.. haha

The dr was great as she was only a locum, plus she had some surgical experience so that was a bonus. The dr understood why i never wanted to go to the hospital.I was living in the hope that it would last another week, so that the woman who i have to see at the hospital, could have sorted it, just to save a visit to the drs.lol.I have a problem with my glands, so that is why this is an on going problem with me.When it gets to the stage that i have no choice to have the glands in my groin removed like i had no choice with the glands in my armpits being removed, then they will have to be removed, but until then i will tolerate the abscesses.

Wow! That can get serious fast. And in such a tender spot. Awful that you can't trust the hospital. Eight stitches! How is it now? Hope it is getting better. What an awful thing. I had one there about two years ago. Not fun at all. It was so tender and sore. Didn't have to have stitches though. Hope yours get better real quickly.

I hope all goes well. Golden seal is good to help heal. Used for inner stuff mostly. I always try to find something natural. Hope you have a nice get away.

It seems like it is getting alot better now thankfully, i am now allowed a quick bath, at last.I am pleased i got the stitches, rather than them wanting to unpack it and then pack it again, as that is really awful.I hope that it do not come back in a hurry this time, as we are going away soon and i really do not want anything to spoil the short break away we are having with the children.

I had an abscess drained. Well it was really a cyst. It wasn't painfull yet, but I had had one before that was and wanted it removed before it got that way. The doctor did it in his office and I only needed 3 stitches. I had to have them removed and then I was back to normal. I went that day to visit someone in the hospital, and I was there longer than I was at the doctors. He did a very good job, and it was over in no time without any pain. I was afraid after the numbness wore off, it would hurt, but it didn't.

The spray that they tried caused my psoriasis to sting and go bright red, thats the only thing that took my mind off my abscess for a split second, lol.I was in alot of pain just trying to sit down, what with pain on standing and walking as well on a normal day, i would have had anything done with or without pain relief to feel a bit more comfortable, lol.

If they had said they weren't going to numb it I would have found a doctor that would. I have a very low tolerance for pain. I can't stand any, and I won't have anything done that will cause any.

I think it would be better for you to consult immediately with your doctor who drained it. Otherwise it may get infected and may cause further complications. So don't neglect it at all.

Ouchie! I hope things have improved since you posted this and you are on your way to healing. I have had those type of strips on me when I had my c/sect I did not find them very helpful. But they certainly were more comfortable than the bent staples I had.

Ouch. My husband is the one in our family that tends to suffer from abscesses, but he has never had one that has gotten so bad that he had to have it drained. I can only imagine the pain that you've felt as a result of this. Do the doctors know what causes you to suffer from these, or are they of unknown origin? I know that with Tom they've suggested low level antibiotics to keep from getting them, but he seems to only get them seasonally so he hasn't started with the antibiotics yet (his mother, on the other hand does do the low level antibiotics).

If you dont mind me asking What kind of pills she give you?
He takes bactrum.
Hope you have a great day.
Less pain.
