I am having trouble getting motivated

Hi everyone!
This may sound strange, but I find that I would rather do my online work (ptc and mylot) than to work on my online class! I am having trouble getting myself to sit down and finish reading the chapters for this week and I have two discussion questions I have to post by midnight tonight. I read all of one of the chapters and about half of the other one last night, but I still need to find some other sources so I can complete the discussions. I would much rather respond to these discussions because there is a chance of getting paid, but if I don't do those then the money I spent on the classes is wasted. Why do I have to be so bad about that? Do you ever find yourself preferring to do something other than the schoolwork that you need to get done? Have a great day!

I find that I prefer to do all kinds of things instead of what I need to do. I wonder if even at my extended age I am being rebellious and I do not want to do what I am told. Even if I am the one telling me to do it. I have some things to do that would earn some more money, but I really do not want to do those things.

I think it can happen at any age! I have decided that I will do at least 35 responses each day for the rest of the month so that I can get paid again next month. I just hope I can make that work. I'm sure if I get my work done that I can also get this done. I just have to make sure that I don't forget about doing the schoolwork! Thanks for the response!

I do not know, I think maybe for my own good I should set a certain time of day for my MyLotting, and then it is easier to do the other stuff as well.

Right now, I go into the classroom and take care of discussions at least a couple of times a week. I haven't felt like doing the research for this week's paper because I have not been feeling well for the last several days. I hope that things get better soon!

I procrastinate a lot, especially online. What I try to do is say that every time I answer a question, I'll reward myself by posting on MyLot, or reviewing a song. Keep telling yourself you must answer the questions first, then it's easier to persuade yourself to finish it. I've been doing it a lot recently, it really works.

Right now I just have a paper that is due, but the way I feel right now I don't even want to come in here, let alone work on the paper. I am really not able to concentrate. I already contacted the instructor and let him know that I would be late on this week's paper due to illness. It may not save all my points for this assignment, but my last instructor gave me full points for all assignments even though all of them were late. But for 10 days of the 6 weeks of the class I was in the hospital so that was understandable. I will be starting chemo next week so I will need even more of his understanding at least on the weeks I have treatments. Thanks for the response!

I am the Queen of Procrastination, but I always get my stuff done. Here is what I do--maybe it will work for you. I force myself to open the book...that's what I say to myslef...I'm just going to open the book. Then I do something else (maybe post to a discussion, for you). Then I say, "I'm just going to read the first sentence, that's all." If it goes well, I'll read another sentence. Pretty soon I am caught up in the reading instead of the posting. I seem to have to transition gradually like that into work some days. See if that works for you!

When I got back from eating, I sat down and wrote out the first discussion. That was easy enough. Now I am back to working on email and mylot. It looks like there are about 25 pages left in the chapter I am reading right now, but I think I can do the discussion based on what I already read. I just need to do a little research and find two other sources on whole language vs phonics when teaching reading. That should be easy enough. I probably won't finish the chapter until another day because it isn't needed for what I need to turn in today. Thanks for the suggestion!
