Basically all it does is clean the spots and dry the article to freshen it from any possible odors. I use dryel sheets now at home and it does the same only I save lots of money from doing it at home. What the dry cleaners do is apply the special chemical to the spot and then put in the dryer to freshen the article. Depending on the clothing they will press it also.

Dry cleaning does not involve water at all. My dryel is a kit that is the same chemicals the dry cleaners use. I spot clean them with the chemical and sheets then there is a special bag that I put them in and then put in the dryer. I have dry cleaned blazer, coats, etc...

Having worked in a laundry Matt and dry cleaning, daily as part of the job detail tasks, I can tel you that dry cleaning is very similar to regular washing. The Only different is spot cleaning. Using different chemicals, prior to the washing, should they be needed. The washing is done in a big commercial washer and dried normally except in a commercial dryer. I have read that dry cleaning is a process of using a chemical solvent instead of water. The washing process we used was with water and use of extraction and the temperature setting was kept at a moderate level, at all times. Often times the item that has just been dry cleaned would be pressed as well, depending on the type of item. After reading the following Dry cleaning article on wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dry_cleaning Leaves me wondering what in the world were we doing? Obviously something right as this was over 30 years ago and the dry cleaning service is still in business to this day. In short dry cleaning is very similar to a regular washing although those trained to dry clean can take any item that requires dry cleaning and know exactly how to handle it. What chemicals to use and what ones not to use as well as temperature settings and methods of drying.

One would think but is definitely Not recommended, No. Especially for items such as blazers, you really would benefit from taking it into a dry cleaners, for sure. The process would be far more gentle and the pressing after a wash and dry is the key. By doing it at home, you just can not get the same quality, giving you the professional finish that an industrial presser can provide. I would not recommend attempting to clean items that require dry cleaning, at home. Dry cleaning is affordable so just take it in. You will be glad after wards, that you did!
