This news item appeared in yesterdays newspaper. Next week, ie March 19th precisely, will see the Moon coming to its closest distance from the Earth, 221566 kms from the Earth. This phenomenon is called the ' Supermoon ' and has occurred previously too in 2005 and even before. According to scientists this event will trigger natural disasters like earthquakes, volcanic outbursts, high tides, tsunamis etc.Everytime this has occurred some disaster or the other has taken place in some part of the world and has caused widespread damage to property and loss of lives.Since the Moon will be closest to the Earth its magnetic influence will cause such disasters to take place. So be prepared for the worst. Lets hope nothing happens, enough is happening anyway.

I don't know, I would personally be inclined to think that the natural disaster that just happened last week could be all that is going to happen as a result of the moon's distance from the earth. At least I hope that is the way that things turn out to be because of the fact that I don't know that the earth is ready to deal with another natural disaster after the earthquakes that have been experienced during the last several weeks.

"According to scientists this even will trigger natural disasters...." This is complete and utter nonsense! No scientist in his/her right mind would say that! The Moon's magnetic field is much smaller than Earth's. And the Moon has been this close to Earth many, many, many, many, many times. And there's always some disaster going on on Earth, regardless of the Moon's distance from Earth. There is no scientific doubt that the Moon's gravitational (NOT magnetic) field affects Earth. But this an ongoing phenomena - it is happening every second of every day of every year of every century of every eon. But to think that the Moon's closest approach (which happens regularly!) will cause significantly more extreme natural disasters is simply preposterous and is a result of folks just not taking the time to understand a little science.

Well, this post was quite prophetic in that it came before the news of the Japanese disaster. I can only hope that your predictions about tomorrow the 19th are not correct. I do not think that a lot of people can handle too much more depressing world news. It has been one major event after another for the last four or five months. We have had our share here in Australia as have other parts of the world. I will be very busy over the weekend, but I will be keeping an ear on the radio news for anything disaster related to see if your prediction comes true. Lets hope not!

Well, I did not hear of any more disasters over the weekend, so we must have gotten away with it for once!

Even otherwise, something or other disasters are happening somewhere in the world every now and then Veejay. Either earthquake, drought and floods and immense loss of lives and properties are occuring. Since such thing are happening suddenly, we remain a mute spectators, unable to stop them or take any precaution to avert them either but suffer a lot

I don't know where you got that from, I mean where the newspaper got it from since sometimes newspapers only write such 'news' to create even bigger panic which is really annoying. but if that has happened before and there were some consequences I strongly hope we're past the worst, because this what's happening now in Japan is hard enough already and I don't think anyone else in any other country would be ready again to prepare for such disaster as this one was. it's horrible and I really hope it's not happening again.

Let us just pray for the outcome that this will not give so much so that will put us all down again due to whatever it may cause us to suffer.

Oh my god, I just read through this whole thread and I was stunned at the apparent lack of education people are getting in basic science. People should open a science book every once in a while, seriously. In fact this whole forum is filled with garbage science nonsense like this so called "supermmon" causing disasters, that fictitious planet some call "Nibiru". I even saw earthquakes tied in as a weather disaster in one thread. Please folks, I beg you....take a basic high school science course or something and don't get your science information from youtube.

Hello veejay, It already happened, Tsunami already hit in Japan and alerts send to other countries too. March 19 is still far away and their prediction already happened, which means we can expect more calamities. Nothing can we do when the natural calamities hit on us. Just pray for all.

Have you seen the news report about the Earthquake of 8.9 strong on Richter Scale and the consequent Tsunami alert in Japan? Is this just the prelims for the 19th Supermoon?

I started this discussion yesterday and was shocked to see the news of the Japan temblor a few hours later on TV news channels. Can`t say for sure but it could be a forewarning of events to come next week.

...Hi there vj, Hope you are well. Thanks for the information, I'm sure by now you heard about the huge earthquake in Japan. It seems things are happening all over as you say. Maybe next week will allow a respite and pass on without incidence but with so much past history with that kind of an occurrance there will more than likely be something happening, hope it won't be bad. Take care of yourself.

I don't think that the next week will bring the end of the world, as the news say. There might be some small earthquakes but I don't think they will bring widespread damage to property and loss of lives. As you said, enough is happening anyway...

Scientist are claiming that the earthquakes in Japan is not due to Supermoon. But I think there could be some relationships between these two incidence. All these thinks are natural calamities So we can only pray to god that these calamities not affect to many human lives.

If you actually learn from your science classes you would know that, the planets, the moon, and the sun all have affects on each other. This is the universe saying nothing can change the cycle of life including the life of the planets and moons and how they interact with each other.. It is all apart of our destiny. We can't say we didn't know, we knew, We can't say we didn't have time to prepare, We did. Now as time moves forward we will be apart of the cycle as it moves forward.

Could this have anything to do with the earthquake and tsunamis in Japan or is it too early? Hopefully that will be all that will happen. That was bad enough.

There is no way for us to know the future. God has designed life so perfectly, and if there are ways to know the future, then it is not of GOD. The only future God has revealed to us are all written in the Bible.
