Fellow Mylotters,
Let's offer a simple prayer for the people in Japan. They were hit by a massive 8.9 earthquake and 20ft high tsunami sending ships in the shore!
My aunt is in Japan and I have not heard from her yet. I hope that she's okay.
There's also a tsunami alert in the PH and several countries around it. May God keep us all.

yes, it,s just been happened.May God have mercy for this country and its people as well. What a powerful earthquake? 8.9 ,can you imagine that and the tsunami did cause some damages as well. It is expecting that more less sacle earthquake will mostly to come. Wow, The earthquake did killed some people and cause some fire as well. Even the capital of China, Beijing can feel this earthquake in the city. I guess it is sure a sign to warn everyone in the region that we really have to watch what's going on in the world everyday.

I am happy that the tsunami that hit Batanes and the rest of the Eastern provinces were just mild and lower than a meter.
I heard that Japan has a nuclear prob now and they are now on it. I hope that everything will return to its place.
Yeah, it pays to be alert and aware at all times.

they are trained in disasters like this. i hope every Filipino person who lives there atleast go to training as well so they know what to do. although we have to admit that sometimes it comes to you like a blink of an eye but it is still much better if every one go to training like the japanese way. as i started at my discussion i admire how they are calm and how they, specially the elders take this situation. survive first before panic. until now i still could not imagine how the place where we work looks like... but like you said happy that we gone home and happy that i am alive... now let us pray for all the people who are suffering specially those who had lost their love ones.

Yeah, training and education for those who live near the shores or for everyone. Especially those who live in the fault line. I am quite disturbed yesterday, I watched the TV and there are infrastructures above the fault line! There were those who are actually unaware about that! And I was like, OMG! What if my house is actually standing on it!
Let's just hope that this does not happen here or does not happen again anywhere.

Oh my, good thing you came and go in advance. I really cant imagine if I am there and I would never know where to go if those massive waves are there and running after me!
They are really in a horrible situation now. But in times like that you still have to thank God that you are alive.

It's horrible! I have been sending prayers and karma and whatever else I can send since 2:45 am that morning my time. I don't know why I woke nor why the TV was left on but I sit up and watched as the tsunami swept through Japan. I hope you have heard from your aunt.

Morning, Jen! 2:50 a.m. I think is when I received my first phone call..as we were put on Emergency Alert, and all waterfront homes were evacuated, to homes like mine which are away from the waterfront/coastline. So I had visitors, starting at 4:30 yesterday morning...were given the "all clear" alert to go home last nite, BUT just got another call, from our Unit Manager, there is another Tsunami Alert, as now Alaska is experiencing earthquakes...the Tsunami's from Japan are coming over the North Pole, past Alaska...yesterday, the Aleutian Islands helped to break up the intensity of the Tsunami's...BUT today, the earthquakes in Alaska are adding to the intensity.
I am not used to sharing my home with people, but it is good to know, that there is a relatively safe place! NOW, I know why I didn't buy waterfront! HUGZ!

@JenInTN: Thanks! Was able to contact her last Saturday, she's fine as well as her kids.
There are threats of calamities all around the world now. The best thing to do is to pray and be prepared so that when disasters hit we would know what to do. Though it is hard to stay composed after all these stuff. :(

My prayers are with the people of Japan and those countries prone to the after effects of the tsunami. It's very sad news and I hope we can all pray for the best after this monstrous calamity. The world is praying that worse things won't come and that the people who were greatly affected would be able to recover. Japan is a strong country and I know they will soon emerge victorious after this calamity.

I do hope that, my father learned about the leakage and the apparent "acid rain" that swarmed thru text messages and he wanted to go home early and just stay there so he is kinda protected.
I hope they will stop doing that, they arent helping but creating mass panic instead!

I hope your Aunt was inland on high ground when this all occurred. It appears that communications are still disrupted and I'd imagine that the portion that is working is dedicated to governments (embassies) and businesses. It is my hope that your Aunt is well and will have access to communications soon to let those who love her know of her status.
I too know many people around the world, too many of these people live in Japan or other potentially affected areas... at least too many for my comfort, knowing that some of them may be endangered.
I have no doubt that this will have an impact on world finances, just as the tsuanmi did a few years ago. The impact of such events is wide spread and long lasting.

It is good to know that your family members are safe. As far as the cooking fuel is concerned alternatives are usually close to hand, a grill, electric pots and pans are handy and there are also camp stoves with the small propane bottles that work very well.
Hopefully soon the aftershocks will end and the other dangers lessened for the people of Japan, and that the international community chips in with aid for those most in need.

Hi there, fortunately my aunt and the rest of her family is safe, thank God. They still have electricity and water, prob only is the supply of gas (for cooking and stuff). Accdg to her she's staying quite far from SEndai, though the earthquake is really strong and there are aftershocks and tremors are still felt last Saturday (I think till now).
Yes, its impact will contribute to the emotional and psychological levels too.

I was upset to hear about the disaster in Japan. I don't know anyone there except for some people from Mylot. I hope that none of them were affected to much. There have been a lot of discussions about it, so it has affected people in that respect. President Obama said we would aid in any way we can. It is too bad we couldn't stop it from happening. It would be too late for Japan, but maybe we could help the other countries that are under alert. Japan and all the other countries will be in my thoughts and prayers.

Oh I am sorry to hear that you have not heard for your Aunt and I will absolutely put her in my prayers and all the people out in Japan.
It is sad staria that we do not realize how great we have it until we hear how bad others do.
God bless!

Everywhere there are Filipinos working abroad, we should pray for them especially if we have a relative.
Filipinos in Japan, Australia, New Zealand, Libya, Bahrain, Egypt, Yemen, Saudi Arabia, Hongkong and all countries that Filipinos suffering civil war, earthquake and other calamities, we should pray for there safety.
After all, they are the ones who help our family in small little way not to mention the remittance which the government gained.
Long live Filipinos!!!!

I am joining you in prayers for their safety. Like you I have cousins, nieces and nephews living in Japan and also my in-laws are living there permanently. We are very thankful they are all safe but still in shock specially the kids. What they fear now is the nuclear plant, just hope the Japanese technocrats will fix it before anything bad happens! God bless us all!

I was also concern about the latest in a series of earthquake shocks that are occurring in several parts of the world like in New Zealand before it happened in Japan . Even if I do not have a relative in Japan I was also concern about their safety especially for the old people and children. The tsunami just looks like it came out of a movie. The latest technology cannot protect anybody since it was mother nature creating havoc. I just breathe a prayer for everybody's safety and our Philippine country as well as for others that might be affected. My aunt who lives near the coastal area had transferred to a higher place to avoid the tsunami if in case it happens and thankfully they were not affected.
