Well...
We have many stories in India dealing with the story of great friendship. Even we have stories of those people who has been considered as God here in subject of this relation...
There is one story I remember of Krishna and Sudama. Krishna is esatblished God here in Hindu mythology and Sudama was his friend when he was taking his education.
After getting young Krishna become king and Sudama went to his home and stayed like poor. After much suffering once he went to meet him after his wife's request and then there is story of his grand welcome when he reached there...
There are many story related to idol friendship in our culture and we often give example for that..
what about your culture or do you remember any story ?
If yes then share here...
Thanks...

As far as great stories of friendship, unfortunately I'm not able to think of any of them from my culture. I would have really liked to have had the opportunity to read some such stories from other cultures, but it seems that everyone else is in the same boat that I am in and is unable to think of stories of great friendship from their culture. So with that said, can you share more about the story that you've briefly touched on?

The Story:
Sudama was from a poor family, while Krishna was from the royal family. But this difference in social status did not come in the way of their friendship. They lost contact over the years and while Krishna became a military leader and King of great repute at Dwaraka, while Sudama stayed as a humble, and somewhat impoverished person living in a village.
Sometime later when Sudama was going through some bad times, not even having enough money to feed his children, his wife reminded him of his friendship with Krishna.
Though initially reluctant to go to his friend for help, Sudama finally agrees to go. He leaves with nothing but some beaten rice tied in a cloth as a present. He remembers that beaten rice is Krishna's favorite and decided to give this as a gift to the Lord.
Krishna is greatly pleased to see his old friend. He treats him royally and with much love. Overwhelmed by all this Sudama forgets to ask for what he actually came to ask. But the Lord realises what His friend needs, and the lord's consort secretly with his official to gifts him with his desires. On his return journey, Sudama ponders his circumstances and is thankful for the great friend he has in Lord Krishna. When Sudama finally returns to his home, he finds a palatial mansion instead of the hut he had left. He also finds his family dressed in extremely nice garb and waiting for him. He lives an austere life after that, always thankful to the Lord.
