If you are familiar with C/C++ language, then you will better go for PHP because it has similar syntax, while if you know Visual Basic, then you more likely want to use ASP. PHP runs in Linux Server as well as Microsoft while ASP is mainly for Microsoft Servers. In terms of expenses, PHP is cheaper to use. PHP codes also runs faster than ASP. For me, I prefer PHP than ASP.

normally php is language based for linux servers and asp for windows one...so in many cases ervers use linux solution and so for this reason many hosting enables php language but also asp is popular and not only on windows based server even if it is a typical configuration like that..
