Do you sleep on your back, side or stomach? What type of mattress is best?

I have slept on my stomach for as long as I can remember. Even while pregnant I slept on my stomach almost the whole time. (Don't worry, I checked with the doctor) I have problems with lower back pain. Especially at night. I sleep on my stomach and my mattress is kind of soft so I guess my back is curved in while I'm sleeping. I toss and turn all night and sometimes i have to wake up to roll over because my back hurts so much I can't just roll over, I have to lift myself up with my arms and gently turn. So I'm thinking I need a firmer mattress but I hate to buy a new one if that won't solve the problem. Any advice?

I pretty much move around in my sleep. I sleep on on back alot and my left side. I can't sleep on my stomach though, and at the moment I am sleeping on a very comfortable futon. It is made more like a couch than a futon, as it is all one piece, where I love falling asleep though is my recliner, now that is comfy.

Well, I know that the type of mattress you sleep on can make a Big difference for sure. We made the investment at least 5 yrs. ago and got a new one, and boy it was nice. It is actually firmer than a lot of the hotel mattresses out there and I know I never complain. I have problems when I go sleep in most hotels for not being able to move much for sure so glad I got the comforts at home. But when purchasing a New one get it from a place you can try it out first and see what will work best for you.

I kind of do a little of each. However, I usually like to fall asleep while laying on my stomach.
Oh, how I hated sleeping on my side when I was in the late stages of pregnancy. I got tired of it quickly. LOL Even after I had my kids I didn't like laying on my side. It took a few years, but I'm starting to like it again...especially when hubby snuggles up next to me.
As far as mattresses go, I prefer firm. I've slept on a soft mattress before and it seemed to hurt my back a bit more. But then again, exercising has really helped alleviate my back pain. I don't think it'd matter what kind of mattress I slept on now, so long as I make sure to lay on it comfortably.
Happy mylotting!

I can't sleep on my back, because I feel I just can't breathe properly. And I feel I'm a corpse. I am always on the side position and stomach position. My husband was wondering how can I breathe in that position. Well it has been a habit of mine for so long and I notice that my son took after me.

Hi. ravinskye. I usually will sleep on my stomach now. When I wake up, my back will hurt. When I was pregnant, I would sleep on my side. I had no choice but to. I was worried about sleeping on my stomach because I did not want to hurt my baby. Maybe you can try buying a pillow for side sleepers so that you can stay in one one place as you are sleeping. When I go to sleep at night, I will be sleeping on my side then I will wake up on my stomach! I am really trying to fight off of this habit, but it so hard to!

I enjoy sleeping on either my side or on my stomach. For one reason or another, I feel a lot more comfortable when I'm actually lying down either on my back or one of my sides. I can't really get comfortable when I'm on my back. I'm not really sure why, but it's the way that it is for one reason or another.

I sleep to any position I am comfortable with. But the mattress should be firm. NOt so soft and not so hard. Just right. It is important to have a good mattress because when our backs are strained, it will cause bigger problems like bone problems or osteoporosis. So be careful next time you buy a mattress, choose the best.

Mostly, I sleep on my back. I am just used to it eversince I was in highschool. I read that it is good to sleep at your back because of better relaxation and lung expansion especially when head of your bed is slightly elevated. Firm mattress is the best kind but you will get use to it for sometime since you use soft mattress for quite a lot of time.
