I live in Oklahoma. Right now there are 23 wildfires in my state. Yes, at one time. I was doing errands today when I saw smoke in the sky. I went home and saw on the news the wildfire that was in my city. There are 22 more around my state. I feel so sorry for the people being affected.
And then of course we all now about the tsumani. Are there currently any natural catastrophes in "your neck of the woods"?

I haven't heard about any natural catastrophes in my area, but I don't follow the news at all so the only way I hear about things is when they are mentioned in a discussion. I thought wildfires only occurred in the summer. It must be dry where you are. I hope that things settle down for you and your state. Have a great weekend!

I bet that was one happy dog! I'm glad that the wind is down. I hate high winds! Good thing they got the fire out. Hopefully the rest are out as well.

biePam lost my response.copy paste. here in southern California
its really calm and p eaceful tonight.but the coast is on tsunami
watch. We have had those wildfires in other years too but we have
had enough rain this time that we should hopefully avoid the
wild fires. I am so sorry thats happening in your state3s.those
wild fires do so much damage and am so sorry for those losing
homes and belongings to those fires.no earthquakes yet and hope non
for a long long time here.the doom sayers will keep on saying we will
have one in two weeks. I cannot worry about that. I am just trying
to heal and get back to normal after that bad fall. today I was down to only one pain pill. so must be getting well.hurrah for my side.

Hi Amber~ It does seem as though the "world" is falling apart!
It is extremely scary to read the news and see what is happening
in Japan and Hawaii and all over! I didn't know about the wildfires
in Oklahoma. I guess the "news" right now is just too overwhelmed
to report every single states issues and that in itself is more
than frightening! I am very frightening for our friends now in
Japan. I don't even know what to say or do. All I can say to YOU
is to watch out, stay safe and do whatever they tell you to do!
Keep listening to the news and if they tell you to "move" then
go! Take yourself and Annabelle and run to the safest place you
can! I don't understand what is happening in the world, but I, too
am very frightened! I live in NYS and have had enough scary things
to deal with so I don't even want to think what might come next,
but I am also trying to be prepared by listening! I love you girl,
so keep yourself and that little puppy safe! Love, Les

I always think of New Yorkers as tough, like not a lot fazes them. I mean the people in NYC and the surrounding area have been through hell and back.
Yes, the Japan thing is front and center, for good reason. This morning I was stunned to hear about the nuclear plant being on fire and the radiation leaks. I hate to think of the impact it is going to have on the environment.
Every station in Oklahoma was interrupted yesterday afternoon for coverage on the fires. The one in my city is out today. But I felt so sorry for the people who lost their homes. It got people's home that lived in trailer parks, and it got homes that were in prestigious areas. Some rich people lost a lot, and some poor people lost a lot. Shelter is being offered for everyone, and I have no doubt our state will come together to help those who did not have insurance.

What is happening or happened my side of the country may not be much to write home about per se but the damage that the rains at the wrong time have caused is unthinkable. The fruit trees are not bearing and even if they do now, come monsoons they will all drop off. Prices of food products are soaring and if this is not a catastrophe what is?

Part of the reason I moved to NM was because it was considered "safer" from natural disasters (hurricanes, tornadoes, floods, etc.), I feel for the people who are suffering from Tsumanis, earthquakes, fire... But at the same time, that's why I don't live on the Pacific Coast. While I absolutely love the Pacific Coast, I also understood the dangers...mudslides, fire, Tsumanis, earthquakes... While I make it sound like it's choices we've made...I still feel awful about what's happening. Unfortunately, it won't be the end of natural disasters we'll see. All we can do is prepare, the best we can, for the "probable" disasters for the areas we choose to live in. Somehow, that doesn't make me feel better for the people of Japan or you in Oklahoma? Keep safe!

Thankfully WA state has been safe lately. We have not been having anything out of the ordinary or if we are, I am not aware of them. I know that with all the other things that have happened in the US and world (like Japan), it does make you wonder what is next in store for people as well. All I know as a Christian this is what keeps me wanting to continue to draw closer and trust God a little more as with everything that continues to happen we never know what tomorrow will bring us as well.

No local disasters right now but we are in a red flag situation, no burning. I had not heard about Oklahoma. I remember as a young child laying in my grandparents' front yard looking up at the sky and praying for rain because there was wild fire in the area.

Just wait they will blame at least one fire on a cig.
BUt WE have been trained not to throw Cigs out of our iwndow nd stomp them out if we are on the out side.
and not to build fores in high winds so if the fires aint by lightning some punk kids started them thinking they re smart to throw that cig out or start a camp fire.

I'm a wildland firefighter so I keep up with all the fires, in Texas and in all other states. We have had well over 100,000 acres burn already this year. It is shaping up to be the same weather pattern as 2000. There were a lot of fires that year. We have been under red flag warnings more than not (red flag warning is extreme fire danger). So looks like its going to be a busy spring/summer for all of us. They have had a few in Florida, Arizona and New Mexico also, but then again the fire season is just beginning.

Thank God NO! Nothing major like fire or tsumani's going on in my area. My niece is in Hawaii on the marine base and was woken up in the wee hours of the morning and told to leave and head for high ground now! It scared her bad and she didn't know where high ground was! She was able to figure it out and went. All she had with her was two gallons of water and her cat. That's it. But luckily the tsumani didn't hit as hard as they figured it would.

So far none has happened yet, but we are all bracing ourselves because after the Tsunami incident in Japan, Philippines is also being alerted. Although our province is not in the list since we lie in the middle of other islands therefore there is a great chance that the surrounding islands are protecting us, we know that fellow Filipinos out there may be victims of such calamity. And this will affect the entire country.
We've just slowly recovered from what happened during typhoon "Ondoy" where a lot of people lost homes and loved ones due to the devastating flood and now, tsunami.
But I have faith that all these shall pass.

Floods. The poor world. I live in northwest PA and lots of things are under water because of all the rain plus all the snow melting and then more snow on top of it, etc. But it's not nearly as bad as a lot of places are what with the tsunamis, earthquakes, and fires.

Fires, are such scary, scary occurence, and I remember 4 summers ago when this Island was on fire...all the evacuees, it is still a source of bad dreams! And so unpredictable, the direction it may take.
Yesterday, was an interesting morning! We have Emergency B.C., our Community Director was phoned, must have been as soon as the earthquake, because just before 3 a.m., I was one of those called to provide shelter. The first Tsunami was scheduled to hit at 5:45 a.m., so the task at hand, prepare for unknown visitors immediately. All waterfront homes were evacuated. Little or no damage...and ThankGoodness that is over. It was just over 3 weeks ago that we had our quake here.
Have been thinking about you and your Dad, lots, this past week...as the Tim Horton's Briar Curling Championship has been on...did you watch! Take care and Hugs!

Nope no natural disasters in our area. Does a 17in blizzard last month count?
I've never heard of the wildfires being in your parts. Perhaps between me not watching that much news and the fact they only every talk about the fires in the SW of the country during dry summers. When I think of your state I think of tornado's happening there.

Are you going to be safe from the wild fires? Do you have somewhere to go if they start getting too close?
We hardly ever get any natural disasters around here. We've had 2 minor earthquakes in my lifetime, and we weren't even able to feel them. I think once or twice in my life we've had a tornado touch down but it was a small one that might have destroyed a hot dog cart and nothing more. Mostly we just get snow.. lots and lots of it, and we're used to it so we're able to deal pretty well. Granted snow can cause a lot of issues like car accidents, collapsing roofs, slips and falls and broken hips.. but those things are generally avoided with proper precautions which most New York residents should know and practice.

The wildfire in my city is out today. Last night the helicopter from the news station panned out the shot, and as far as the eye could see was fire. A lot of churches were opening for shelters. It was sad. Some really poor people lost their homes, and some tremendously rich people lost their homes.
On my birthday earlier in the month we took the 1 hour trip to meet the people who gave me Annabelle. Driving home on the turnpike, 30 yards from the road, was fire. I was like, does anyone even know about this fire? That part of the turnpike was in the middle of nowhere. About 10 minutes later we see fire trucks coming from the other side of the turnpike. I can see how those things get out of hand. It might start near nothing, but it takes so long to get help that it eventually gets to places people live.
