About 10 years ago I used to jog about 2.5 miles 2 to 3 times a week. It seems to be the fastest way to lose weight as well as keep it off. I am now 50 years old and 30-50 lbs overweight. I would love to start a walk/jog/run program but I am at a loss on how to begin after all these years of not doing any exercise. Anyone know of a program that can put me on the right track? I do remember I felt better when I ran physically and spiritually...

I am glad you take concern of your weight because some people at this age just seem to ignore their well being. In your case, running at a slow pace might help you at first, later apply harder exercise. You can also do household chores. I lost 6kgs doing household chores and I am 30. Moreover you are not like 300 pounds, so exercise will do.

thank goodness I am not 300 lbs! Maybe some good old household chores will be a good start and motivating for me. My friends say just start walking, but I need to have that feeling of euphoria that I did have in the past when I ran to keep me motivated. I am still trying to figure out why I stopped when it was working for me.

I would suggest to start out slow with the running in the beginning and continue to work you way up. Maybe you won't be able to run like you use to but certainly some is better then none at all.
Also a well balanced diet and plenty of water also, will help with the weight loss.
It would be hard to suggest a specific program because I would not know if you would be physically and health wise physically fit to complete them. I way say an hour a day for 3 days a week and when you reach your ideal weight you can for cardio run 30 minutes five days a week.
This is what I do with my healthrider experplay bike at home and thus far my metabolism has risen and I am quite fit and trim now for the last two years.
Best of luck and welcome to myLot!

thanks hardworkinggurl, I know I followed some kind of program in the begining, like walk 3 minutes run 2 minutes until you can fully run it. I just can't find the info and I keep putting it off as if I can't begin until I find the formula! You are so right though, pretty much anything I can do is better than nothing!
