Traffic on my blog

I've been thinking about creating my own blog. But, I was thinking of the most important factor to being a successful blogger. How would I go about getting a lot of traffic to my blog. I go online and see all of these great blogs and I realized, I have no idea where to begin. I know a some coding, but I don't think that will help me much if I don't want my own domain just yet. Let's say I posted it on Blogger/Blogspot. Where would I start exactly? And how would I start getting traffic?

Me either, I just created one and it's a highway in a desert where no eagles dared go. It's the wHORIZONZ. Can any one get a chance to pass through and post their comments on myLot? I would appreciate it and befriend them for a favor. thanks in advance to everyone. see ya..

This is an interesting topic for those, like me included who are new to blogging. Thanks H24 for bringing up this discussions. I too admire people who can write interesting article and get plenty of feedback, positive or otherwise. Having said that I think as a successful blogger, one have to be able to deal with the varied views of the respondents.
smilingjack's suggestions are pretty neat too. I believe when one gets into the feeling good zone of having good response, it will be an interesting hobby to keep. For now I'll just stick to mylot as my comfort zone if I decide to blog. lol
