Police shootsas a pitbull in the mouth

I wad reading the newspaper and since I love animals I always pay close attention to animal articles. There it was an article that talke a police that shoot twice a pitbull in the mouth when they were trying to arrest someone at their home. The dog got scared and went to his owner but one of the police officer decided to put a gun to the dogs mouth and shoot him for no apparent reason, maybe cause the officer got scared bacause it was a pitbull and inmediatly thougt the dog was going to attact him.
A family member thought the dog was dead, but the dog didn't die, so thy rush to the vetrinary and after that went to confront the officer at the police station. The officer accepted proudly thta we was the one who shot him cause the animal scratch him a little bit. The family member asked that how it was possible that the person that protects the law of animal cruelty are the one commiting the crime? Why are pitbull have a bad reputation, if a dog is raise with love then that's how he's going to turn, if it raise with cruelty and hate then thats they the dog is going to behave, no matter the race of the dog.
According to the family member, she said that the dogs was raised with love and around children, I hate seeing this kind of cruelty and it makes more angry when someone of the law it supposly the one the carry one the law. Abuse is abuse no matter who you are.

I don't know what to think about this incident.
I hate when incidents like this take place, I hate to hear that dogs are victims because their owners don't take measures to prevent such incidents 
. But in this case, from the details that you provided, I wouldn't blame the police officer. Of course, none of us was there and we can't know for sure what happened, all we can say are only suppositions.
I think the police officer overreacted when shoot the dog (TWICE!) He could have asked the dog owner to leash the dog until they had finished their job. But he was there to arrest someone. What should he expect from a criminal? 
If the dog "scratched him a little bit", this means an attack took place there. The dog didn't just pass by and scratch the police officier.
So I tend to believe that the policeman was in self defence, indeed. He must have got scared and that could be the reason for his undesired action.
And one more detail: how could the policeman shoot the dog IN the mouth if the dog got scared and went to his owner? Did the policeman open the dog's mouth and shoot?

That's why I said we only make suppositions based on what the article says. But it can't say everything.
In my imagination, the policeman couldn't just shoot the dog in his mouth unless the dog had his mouth open. And how could he keep his mouth open if not when barking or attacking the "intruder"? Because this is what the policeman was for him: a person who endangered his family. This is why I said I hate when people put their beloved dogs in situations like this. The dog protected his owner, it is in their nature to do so. The dog didn't know his owner was a criminal and even if he was, the dog would have still protected him. The dog was not guilty but his owner was.
I'm so sorry when I heard about stories like this! Why do innocent animals need to suffer because of their owners?

hi cmarrero ..i think that is just horrible what that officer did to that poor dog ..i myself is an animal lover and i just can't stand when i see any kind of animal being mistreated.. that officer has no business to do anything to that dog unless that dog atacked that officer first.i don't think that dog would atacked that officer if it feels threaten by th officer..i think the family should sue the police department because animal have feeling too and they have the right to be here as we , and i don't think that it is fair if the dog is consider dangerous only because it was born as a pitbull because the dog can't decide to what type of dog it wanted to be.

It think this policeman though this dog is going to attack him since he was there arresting owner and got scare and shoot at him.He did it because he was scared.It was mistake but i wouldn't call him cruel for this reason.You and me were not there to see what happened there exactly and why police officer made decision to shot this dog.

gosh! how could he do something like that? he should be put in prison for shooting the dog without any reason at all. maybe if the dog attacked and bit him maybe he could for self defense, but shoot the dog in the mouth with no reason at all is just crazy and that is horrible. i hope the dog is getting better now.

This is so sad dog nature is to bite like cats they do scratch but i believe if this pets raised with love and care even how bad they attitude can be they will not attack someone unless they see something wrong he doesn't need to shoot the pitbull on the mouth a warning shoot will do since dog ears are sensitive the pitbull will be alarm with the warning shoot.
Besides the pitbull got scared of the policemen what the hell he thinks that he needs to shoot the poor dog
