I Dreamed I Died

I’ve heard it said that if you die in your dreams, you die in real life. I don’t know where they came up with that idea but it has always been considered common knowledge in my circle.
Well, maybe it is true. Last Tuesday I was taking a nap and dreamed that I was dying. It was a very vivid and real dream. I remember my eyesight going dim and as my body was shutting down, feeling more and more separated from it. Finally I could feel invisible hands reaching into my body and pulling my spirit free but just before my spirit broke free, the scene changed and suddenly I was standing on the street talking to friends.
Now, how does this tell me that maybe it is true? Well, when I woke up, I was having chest pains and my left arm was hurting…signs of a heart attack, right? I was also very weak and short of breath. These symptoms continued for several days. No, I didn’t see a doctor. I thought of going to the hospital but the hospital here is a joke and I knew they wouldn’t do anything but pat me on the head and send me home so I waited. I started feeling better on Friday so I didn’t worry too much about it. I promise all my mylot friends that I will see a doctor and talk to him about it...and soon.
So…what do you think? Have you ever come close to death in any of your dreams? Did you have any physical reactions when you did? Do you know of anyone with a similar experience to mine?

In my country it is believed that if one has a dream about dying, in the real life something good will happen to this person. What you have dreamed doesn't necessarily mean you're dying. On the contrary, I do believe good things will happen to you. And maybe it was exactly the new beginning, this dream of yours. It was supposed to make you go and see a doctor. If there were warning signs of something serious, the doctor would see them, help you overcome the condition and you'd be able to start something new and wonderful. Just look it on the bright side. This is what I think.

Interesting outlook. I remember being the forever optimist. Then reality bit me too many times. I'm not quite the pessimist but have become a realist and the feelings this dream gave me were not good ones. Sorry.

I am not pessimistic, I am realistic. An optimist see the glass as half full, a pessimist sees the glass as half empty, a realist asks, "Did you just fill it or drain it?" It all depends on which direction the liquid in the glass is going. Optimism sets you up for disappointment. I prefer to be pleasantly surprised, thank you.
Like the song says, "Hope for the best but expect the worst."

hi friend, in my country, the popular belief when you have a dream like that or any bad dream is because you slept with a full stomach especially rice, I really do not know how true this is or if it has any scientific basis. Maybe science should make more research on sleeping with a full stomach cause they they say it makes the other organs work more or overload, again I do not know how true this is. Go get a check up friend, maybe a few tests will erase some doubts, good luck and wish you well

Interesting. I can't sleep on an empty stomach. If I'm hungry at all, I will toss and turn until I get up and eat something. Isn't it interesting the different beliefs people have about dreams and sleep? It is still the uncharted frontier.

I'm sort of in between here. If I'm really hungry I can't sleep, but I've also found that if I'm over full I wake up in the middle of the night.
There were about a dozen years where I didn't dare eat after 7 p.m. in the summer because I would wake up between 2 and 4 just burning up. Might've been hot flashes, but I really wasn't in menopause then and they've pretty much stopped now that I AM in menopause.
But I also wasn't really hungry when I went to bed either, a cool drink would take away any hunger pains and I would sleep.

Well, everyone is different, aren't we? I know that I have been told that I have apnea but I have also been told that I don't. I have had three sleep studies done and two said no, one said yes. Go figure. It may be that I do and that was what was going on while I dreamed of dying. Maybe. My doctor wants to send me to Bend for some tests but I 1) can't afford the trip and 2) don't want the pain sitting in a car for three hours would give me. I guess I'm pretty well stuck between a rock and a hard spot unless I can find another adult to go with us and share the expense.
The medical care in John Day is non-existent!

Well, tarot is not real life and the interpretations of the tarot cards are as individual as the person reading them.

I'm afraid the time for new life is long gone for me, my friend. The fact is that I have been hanging on by a thread for the last 16 years for my daughter's sake. Still, it's something to think about, eh?

I have dreams similar to you. When I join an esoteric class, it was taught to us to practice leaving your body while awake and see what is happening with the world. Meditation skills and so challenging. Now I used to it and not be afraid of dreaming.
A lot of concentration but practice makes you perfect.

I'm sorry but you cannot leave your body without dying. It is an impossibility. What you may experience in meditation is the imagining of leaving your body but the spirit is required to keep the body alive so if you ever actually left your body, it would die.

LOL...multivitamins are a luxury I cannot afford on my already stretched to the limit budget. My health has been deteriorating over the past four years, though, and I fully expect to not see my 60th birthday. (I am 53)
