Why make digital cable mandatory when analogue cable TV is equally good?

My cable operator gave me a cable box and said that they won't provide analogue connection anymore because within a year or so our govt will make it mandatory for cable operators to provide digital connection. I am a fan of analogue connection because if the signal is not strong for a channel then that channel can still be viewed if it is analogue but in digital the screen just freezes up.Also, the Tv's remote cant be used anymore and the cable box comes with a load of useless features .An average user don't need crystal clear picture when he is happy with slightly lesser quality picture in analogue mode.

I is my understanding that by going digital they can get more channels for people to use. They can put more information on the airways more efficiently.

Federal law in the US mandated TV had to switch from analog to digital broadcast two years ago. It's to free up more of the analog frequencies used by TV signals for emergency signals and wireless broadband. Who would've thought the world would even crowd up the airwaves one day? Ah, progress and technology marches on.

Everywhere is changing to digital as it provides more channels without using any more frequencies. My TV is digital and have had cable for years and very rarely the picture freezes. When I had analogue only, often couldn't get some channels at all and if the weather was bad even less :(
