Do you play a musical instrument?

How long have you been playing? Is it difficult to learn? Why did you choose to play that particular instrument and what songs you like to play with it? If you are to forget this hobby playing an instrument, what are you willing to be interested in?

No, I don't play any musical instrument yet, though I have a passion to learn to play the harp. I am very fascinated with the sound of the harp, so beautiful, so enchanting. I am still hoping that one day I can start learning that.

True and it seems a hundred years ago that I heard the harp. I also like the sound and I'm listening to it right now.

the harp is beautiful instrument, one that many people admire, but fear they will never be able to play. the truth is it can be simple and rewarding with just a little bit of hard work and knowledge... :)

I am learning piano, guitar, and voice. I also have a flute but haven't had time to begin playing it yet (though I have gotten it to make a sound). I love all genres of music and am (especially) open-minded to anything NOT in the mainstream (I've never been much of a mainstream person and the mainstream that I do favor, I liked before it was "cool"). I took about five years of piano during my youth but gradually lost interest and finally quit. I also didn't have a lot of time during that part of my life with all my other activities. I only just this year started refreshing myself and going back to practicing from my old books and sheet music. I'd say I've worked my way back up to the early intermediate level give or take, though I am also working on a piece composed by my great-great grandfather that I found through my genealogy research. It is exceedingly difficult (he was a master on the piano), but I am slowly getting the hang of it even though it is so far above the level that I'm at right now. I have not been playing guitar long. I have picked at it off and on for several years, though have not put in more than five minutes of practice in at a time until fairly recently and therefore am just not getting the hang of chord progressions and so on. I'd like to master a few of those before I try to tackle any songs, although I have been practicing the chord progressions and strumming patters I have seen in songs from YouTube and places like that. As for voice, I took a few free lessons at my church several years ago. I enjoyed it, and have been - especially recently - practicing what I learned in my classes and also learning from several instructors who have posted on YouTube. I would like to experiment with other instruments as well, but these are the ones I am starting out with and practicing for now. One thing I would love to learn one of these days is cello metal (I don't know how many people have heard of that genre - it's one of those "non-mainstream" movements, I think) as I think it sounds really cool. I've always thought strings sounded beautiful and always wanted to play strings but have never gotten to! My family used to own a big music firm in New Orleans and one of my dreams is to one day revive it. I'd also like to get into songwriting and producing and composing scores for my dance productions (I have a dance production company still in the start-up phase). So there's my instrumental progress so far in a nutshell. As far as learning, I don't think it is that hard to learn if you're willing to invest the time and effort as well as LOTS of patience - getting uptight is the enemy! however, if you don't practice, it is very hard - even darn near impossible at times. I know this from experience.

Hope skydancer will make it very soon,so happy you got enough opportunities to embrace music. Without great music and exceptional musicians around is barely impossible to do great on music no matter how much effort you put in and how driven ,ambitious you are. This is the common problem for the kids from developing countries that put everything on growing economy . What a shame ,honestly.

i was born in a family of musicians, so i grew up with musical instruments around the house. one of my uncle is in the group called Boyfriends and my dad is the composer of the song, dahil mahal kita that was revived by ogie alcasid. but even i am growing around people who is musically inclined i got interested with guitars only when i was 18 yrs old. noboy taught me how to, i just grab a chord chart and start doing what i think is good. i did that everyday for one hour. i know how to play the drums too. but in the band i play bass. it is easy to learn anything you want as long as you give time and focus. goodluck.

well then. our family is quite the opposite as we don't even have a single musical instrument (except for my uncle whose daughter knows how to play a cello) but there are bands around our town sprouting like mushrooms. i am glad you belong to a great family of music lovers.

Sadly I don't play any musical instruments at the moment, and I think I'm tone deaf which is depressing cause I'm very interested in music. And I plan to study guitar and piano when I get a break from school. I hope there's still hope for me. I hope it's not too late for me to learn to play. Rock en' Roll!

me either, i dont play even a whistle and learning bore me unless i get enough time. the only way to become a musician is to sacrifice everything else and get a special bond with the musical instrument such that what the movie the Soloist portrayed. now you have company you don't have to be sad

I also grew up with a family of musicians in my father's side wherein I am so closed too. My grandfather plays the violin. My grandmother plays the flute. My Aunties and Uncle are in a band during they're school days. And they all can play the piano. My father is in a band and is the lead guitar. My brother as a bassist left his old bandmates, just joined my father's band and became the rhythm(guitar). I can play the piano and the guitar. Because it is the most accessible music tool.lol I really wanted to learn how to play the violin.I tried holding my grandpa's violin and I can play a few notes... but you just have to get a tutor or enroll in a violin class to master it. Unlike the guitar, you can learn to play it on your own. I am also interested in playing the bass. maybe it's so simple to play it having only 4 strings to strum on. What I hate is the flute, because I would catch my breath playing it! I have asthma and I think it isn't the right instrument for me. Just can't sound the piece right.

Yes, I play acoustic guitar I've just started playing electric. I also want to start playing bass. I found acoustic easy to learn, although I'm struggling a little more with electric, but that could be due to lack of practice as I don't have as much time on my hands as when I learnt acoustic. I started playing because I've always liked the sound of acoustic guitar and at the time I was really into folk/indie music. But now I'm into metal & would like to learn to play something a little heavier.
